What do you reckon?

The most demanding games F.E.A.R and Oblivion at like 100% increase over a opteron at same clock! Sold it for me as I game at those res's.

Conroes have been upto 4GHz on air Pi 32M stable (almost certainly not prime stable). The average conroe seems to be around 3.2-3.5 GHz on Air from mediocre overclockers @ 1.45-1.5Volts , but remeber these are early ES chips that people have atm and should not be taken as indicitive of what we can expect from retail chips although certainly its looking pretty tasty.

Nothing new here. Its been known that Conroe slaughters everything else for a while now, its just a matter of cpu prices and board availibility when they arrive.

I can see there being a HUGE shortage of cpu's and boards when they are released. Like the 7800 GTX 512MB days.

I don't, Intel have been waiting to get back in the saddle, now they've got something incredible, they won't want people to have to wait because of short supplies. I think they'll ship more than enough to the suppliers.

Yup, Intel have been dropping hints for months that supply shouldn't be a problem. Remember B0 (production) steppings have been rolling out of the fabs for a good couple months now. They must have stock piles of the things... enough to drive any OCer insane :p

Thats what I expected even @ 1600x1200 because F.E.A.R and Oblivion use a lot of physics which need raw cpu power and conroe has plenty of that if you look at the super pi scores.

3ghz should be doable on a 2.4ghz chip and anything higher seems to be getting up to 3.4ghz on air.
