Moving from an Audigy 2 to a X-Fi but need to decide on which one to get.

What's the difference in all of the X-Fi range available.

X-Fi Xtreme Music.
X-Fi Xtreme Gamer.
X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty.

Whats the difference?

music is the normal one, flexi jack to spidif
gamer has flexi jack with optical
fatality is the one with ram and a front IO panel

what will you be connecting to it and such?

Hi, Just playing games really on a tidy 2.1 system.

Do they all deliver the same performance and specifications? As i was reading through the Creative Labs Website at all the X-Fi Cards and noticed all Specifications where the same except the 64MB memory on the Fatal1ty versions.

the xram does sweet nothing. Seriously. It's like sticking ram on a toilet and saying "IT FLUSHES FASTER" o.o

:)
Id say go for a music, personally. It's what I did, id familiarise yourself with the xfi problems though, ie what system specs have you got?
x-fi generally hate nforce 4 motherboards. etc etc

LOL! My specifications can be found in my Signature area.

Can you point out which X-Fi to buy from the OcUK Shop please so i have a good idea what one is the best to buy for game playing, music, dvds etc, use my pc for almost everything.

Just buy the X-Fi Extreme Music OEM (I refuse to spell it without the e!) about £50. I have one coming in a couple of days (not purchased from overclockers since they're still zero stock on UPS so bought elseware at the same time too)

i should really take not of my surroundings -.-

Apparently theres a bug/problem with xfi and the 680 chipsets, you might want to google that a bit (ive just seen it mention i think, been concentrating on my own problems with it)

they only have an OEM version, thought they had full retail musics, Id advise getting a retail one, warrenty and such is a must for x-fi. My xtrememusic cost about 8quid more from somewhere else.

you could get this for 9quid more >>

same (i think) but low profile and has optical in on the flexi jack :) And its retail which means warrenty too

Nice pc btw :P

Yup i was aware that there was an X-Fi problem, the P24 BIOS seems to have sorted those issues.

Looking into getting the Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme Gamer, is this Sound Card exactly the same as the Fatal1ty Professional Version except it has 64MB of RAM.

If so whats the actual difference to the X-Fi Xtreme Gamer as to the X-Fi Elite Pro.

elite pro?

The expensive one?

It has a better DAC and such i think, so generally a better soundcard, but made for "professional" music creation.

O.K so i'm looking into getting the Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme Gamer, is this Sound Card exactly the same as the Fatal1ty Professional Version except it has 64MB of RAM and a Front Panel.

i think so, looking at their site the onyl diff is its low profile and doesnt have the Karaoke software!!!11 Or doom3 patch.

Theres also 3 version of this going now,

gamer,

gamer fatality, has 64meg of extreme faster toilet flushing ram... and a pretty red light youll never see

and full blown fatality with front IO whatsit.

Id like someone to confirm, or maybe send a webnote or email creative and ask, but by the looks of its its the same :)

That's what i was thinking as i checked side by side the specifications of the three and they where identical except packaging, memory and front panel.

Thanks for all your help you've certainly answered all my querys.

heh, profession music creation for people who don't know much about recording hardware

but but but the Creative Labs marketing says it's the best pro music soundcard out! :D

I wish someone overtakes CL on gaming AND music sound quality modes, I guess you could fit two, X-Fi for gaming and M-Audio for music...but pain in the bum to switch output devices and input on the amp.

It does appear after some research that the Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeMusic is no different to the XtremeGamer/Fatal1ty apart from the 64MB Memory which aparently is a total waste of time are all the same except the bundles and packaging.

The Creative Labs X-Fi Elite Pro is a little higher specifications than the other models but not a lot more.

So it looks like the Creative Labs XtremeMusic/Gamer sounds like the best deal!

They are the 2 to consider. I would recommend spending that bit extra for retail to get warranty and proper driver support. I can't seem to update my drivers from creative because I bought OEM.
Why would OEM drivers be different? Anyway retail seems to cause users less problems. Read around the creative support forums for further info

would defo advise getting retail. If I had an oem xfi, even thought its faulty id be up the creek without a paddle. As its retail creative have suddenly turned round and are being rather helpfull, with a little push in the right direction ;)

I've always purchased Retail products, always worth that little extra to protect your investment.

Defenitly going for the Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeGamer Retail Version after researching into this.
