This thread refers to the Titan Amanda.

Now, I am currently water cooled for the overclockability and low noise. However, if I were air cooling and was looking for the best air cooling that money could buy, I would unquestionably go and buy the amanda. The reviews all point to this cooling unit as being the best that money can buy. Even the reviews on the ocuk website are very positive 5* reviews. At £67 it is much cheaper than water cooling and its cost isnt too prohibitive.

My question: Am I the only one thinking like this and why are people still buying lesser cooling units; why not the Amanda? They spend £1000 on their system components and buy a £25 cooler when they can spend an extra £45 and get the best.

Please explain as I am baffled.

Just read through the review myself and im Impressed....Wonder what kind of PSU would be recommended though? And the fact its near silent is a bonus too...I may consider buying one myself if it means there is a possibility of 4ghz :)

Ive just fitted one on a mates E6600.

To be honset I always thought they were a bit of a gimmik, however... I was proved wrong.

Very good build quality, The Cooler needs two people to put the cooler on but once you have one screw on, its a breeze. The Cooler fitted snuggly in a Jeantech Phong II case (- Not the biggest case in the world) oh and you need a free PCI slot as there is a PCI card which the cooler uses.

Temps are great so far, didnt get much time to clock the 6600 at 12am last night, but temps were 31 idle and around 35 under load.

The cooler is very quiet, couldnt hear it above the Akasa Ambers in his case (>meant to be 18db)

Overall, very impressed. Not spent much time with it tho.

Hope this helps.

My question: why are the fans so overpriced to begin with?

That thing looks very fancy and all but £66.96 is a whole lot of money (to most people/me)

Well it's aimed at the what they call the hardcore clocker.....and im surprised that more people on here haven't bought it or talked about it. Iv used WC on several occasions and from my personal experience wouldn't go back! Mainly due to noisy pumps which are soooo annoying. After reading the review I would strongly think about getting that fan if it meant I could get the maximum from my CPU! yes it is a lot of money but so is watercooling, I doubt you would see watercoolers moaning about a price of a top end waterblock knowing they will get the best result and thats without a decent pump, reservoir and tubing to go with it. :)

They have talked about it, and the general concensus is that it's not remotely worth double the price over awesome coolers such as the Tuniq 120.

how many years since you tried watercooling? :p

seriously the top end pumps are basically silent, i don't know how anyone could be offended by the noise of a DDC+ or D5.

Review here:
http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/Titan Amanda Cooler/testing.php

Now, they used a Intel D920 cpu which is a very hot cpu to test it on.

Taking the above results into consideration, we can say that we were extremely impressed by the performance of the Amanda cooler. Despite our initial doubts and horrible experience with old air based TEC coolers, the Amanda proved us wrong entirely. It also has a very clever design. While the processor is idle the TEC is barely powered; just enough to keep the processor cool and not waste unnecessary power. When we loaded the processor, overclocked or not, it seems that the cooler is trying to maintain the temperature at about 40 Celsius degrees. Our particular processor was unstable at 4GHz with any conventional air cooler we have tested up to date, but with the Amanda cooler it became 100% up to 4060MHz, so it did give us an overclocking edge over conventional air cooling. Despite the higher power drain which the dual core processor consumes at 4GHz with the voltage set to 1.45V, the Amanda kept it a mere 1 Celsius degree higher than running the same processor at stock speed and voltage, 1.2GHz lower. It is also worth remembering this is perhaps the hottest processor currently available, two truly power hungry cores on the same chip.

From what is being said, this is the best (air based) cooler around.

My eheim 1250 was very very loud. Other people didnt find it loud, but silence was the most important factor to me. I then tested my system with the (smaller) eheim 1048 and saw my cpu temp drop by 1C and also witnessed a significant noise drop. Since then, Ive been using the same pump which makes very little noise.

Which pump did you find noisey?

Wonders off to the search function :)

PHP:

My first pump was a astek waterchill L30 and my second was a Danger Den CSP MAG... and on both occasions I had endless problems with noise from them. Spent many a hour bleading the system using water wetters placing pumps on soft surfaces, and each time it would cure it and then over a short amount of time they would start to get noisy, so I gave up on it in the end :)

no wonder you didn't enjoy watercooling m8

crap pumps!!!

you can't skimp on watercooling parts to get the proper benefits, and it still ends up costing decent money for a half assed job.

Good to know my mate has an E6600 at 3.6 and its getting to about 65 under load. So he's thinking of getting this one instead of his currnet zalman flower and selling that one on.

Wouldn't have said the CSP MAG was crap myself

The problem with a lot of the reviews and people who say that the Amanda
is no better than the tuniq tower ect ect.. is because they are benchmarking
in open air and with the chip running at stock.

The Amanda is designed for people who overclock and want a stable load temps
under long loads , Even Titan say that the Amanda is no good at stock as it needs heat for the TEC to turn on.

Quote from Titan.

Notice:
Please note that the Amanda TEC cooler is especially designed for overclocking and high power consumption CPUs which produce a lot of heat, and it's able to cool the CPU temperature significantly. For some low power consumption CPUs, the temperature difference will not be so significant when using the Amanda TEC cooler.

lol... what generalised rubbish.

Care to explain ? unless your a troll and have never read the reviews of how they are setup on the testbench
I'm using a Tuniq on a OC'd E6600, and believe it or not my system is a few degrees cooler when fitted into the case. I can't comment on the Amanda though as I've never used one. :)

But then you are far from the norm. I notice that you are able to clock your E6600 to 4ghz - not many can do that. I get the feeling you keep your room and case very cool. Your cpu temp at load, at 4ghz is 52C - this is very unique. Do you wear a coat in your room? :D

What we really need is someone who has upgraded from a Tuniq, say, to the Amanda and tell us what the difference is in maximum clock speeds achievable.

The review I posted earlier clearly shows there is an advantage to be had with the Amanda and that was using a D920 which runs hotter than a Conroe.
