...what else is worth looking at?

Looking to spend around the £160 mark, which will get me an 80GB Classic if I go the iPod route.

However, the last time I looked at the MP3 player market was when I bought my iPod Photo and the only competition was Creative and iRiver, things look far more 'busy' now.

What is worth looking at, and will have comparable (or better) features?

What sort of apps would I be putting on an MP3 player anyway?

Thanks for those links, the ZV:M might be worth a look, I would ideally like over 30GB as my 20GB is just annoying now, so any 8GB/16GB flash based players won't be any good to me really.

Oh I see. Would that be why WinAmp mysteriously lost the ability to see my iPod a few weeks ago? (may have coincided with me updating iTunes/iPod, I don't remember)

Who said anyone cant use it, just its crap IMO and many others so are Ipods again IMO and many others.

At least with other brands you can use what you like and even 3rd party mods etc not held over a barrel.

So you should be ashamed of yourself esp at your age you cant read what is written above. ;)

P.S, What did your post actually input or REC as of topic OP posted about ?.

:p

Can you translate all that please?

Blimey I'm nearly 50 and even I know how to use I-Tunes.
I also have 3 women in the house who know how to use it - you should be ashamed.

Some people gets quite defensive with the apps/OS they use and more than often, I hear people saying this is "crap" that is "poor" but never a pros/cons constructive arguement of the application to their "ideal" one.

I for one have been a WinAmp user, from 1999 to 2001 then WMP till WMP11 beta and then switched to iTunes.

Personally, I prefer how iTunes work because it organises my files, able to get Album arts and crossflow is quite a nice touch to the whole browsing my own library compared to WMP10 (and before).

Also, I had an iPod (and a Touch is on the way), sync was easy with a smart playlist or normal playlist.

As for what players - have a look at the Creative range but right now, if battery power is someone your into, then the iPod classic is very good valued per GB and battery life.

Thats why you should add "IMO" when slating something, the guy above posts something nothing to do with OP's Q and then makes up something I never even stated " I cant use Itunes" and then comes back with more confusion, obv needs his Viagra tonight. :p

Battery life on the ZV:M is more then most Ipods BTW, for MP3, WMV will drain it in half the time.

Great guys, but yeah, I couldn't give a flying lump of duck **** what anyone thinks of iTunes, whether they like WMP better, think Foobar is all that or whatever. If I have to use iTunes if I get an iPod so be it.

However, none of this is helping me find rivals to the 80GB Classic...

It was you who came out with the stupid statement - 'instead of ITunes crap' which is deceiving the OP.
ITunes is definitely not crap and so easy to use that 3 women and a 50 year old bloke can use it.
However, I personally use 3rd party software called Anapod Explorer because I work in File Managers all the time.

The thing that is putting me off a new IPOD is the fact that you have to convert your video to the Apple standard where other devices will/might/maybe accept any standard you download.
Anybody know which device will play back anything I download off the net?

I own one of the new iPods and I think its rubbish! The sound is really subpar... The sony NW-Z818 is much better... MUCH better sound quality... user eq... drag n drop (no need for sonicstage) longer battary life... all metel body no stratching... etc etc etc

I should have known this probably wasn't even really worth posting. Nevermind.

Thanks to helmutcheese and Vegetarian for actually posting something at least halfway constructive.

 to the rest.

No probs mate, and the old timer is still ranting on above and admitting to grabbing Warez of the net lol.

See thats where as the ZV:M will play any divx/xvid etc but not AC3 (5.1) sound ones also outputs to full RES on PAL or NTFC TV's unlike Ipod where is same RES as your players screen.

Oh and it was worth posting, as its a lot of cash to mispend, dont like anyone spoil that.

So you are going away with the view that ITunes is crap?
So be it.

And the little boy doesn't know what he's talking about

I don't know much about the new ipods but i recently got one of the 80gb 5g ipods. I think it's great, i don't use itunes as i don't like the way it chooses to sync music etc. I installed rockbox (www.rockbox.org) on the ipod which adds a whole load more features compared to the original apple os. It also allows drag and drop of music files etc.

I would say that with rockbox the ipod is great. With the original os it's acceptable with third party software instead of itunes imo.

No, i'm going away with the view that after using iTunes for two years, alongside WinAmp, for different things, that I don't give a ****ing toss about whatever petty stupid argument you lot on here feel the need to have in a thread where I was trying to get some advice on MP3 players.

I would say that with rockbox the ipod is great. With the original os it's acceptable with third party software instead of itunes imo.
I have rockbox on my 4G. It's very good (especially for SQ) but it doesn't half give the batteries a thrashing :(

And I gave it exactly as per your OP and you thanked me and 1 other for info, you did comment other input was off topic from all others (worded your own way), infact he still cant post 1 thing to do with your OP lol.

Is there anything else I can help you with, I can answer most Q's about a ZV:M as I own the 30GB model and can answer some Q's on the Zen V Plus as I bought someone one and use it now and then. :)
