Ok it's about time we saw a specific single thread discussing cooling for these cards... and the reason i'm putting it in this section as opposed to the Overclocking & Cooling section is that 90% of the GPU crowd who own one will be in here, and otherwise it may get lost in a deluge of OC'ing threads. It'll also help keep it tidy having one main thread.

Ok so we know the diagonal dimensions for the 8800GT mounting holes are as follows: 75.2mm. This means that coolers from previous gen ranges like the 7900 series will fit, such as the Zalman vf900cu and the Arctic Accelero S1. Here is a list of those which will fit:

Now I have a spare vf900cu at home, and have just purchased an Arctic Accelero S1 + Turbo Module from somewhere, so next week when I receive my card I will be in a position to try both coolers and see how they fare against eachother. I have a feeling the S1 will be staying on though to be honest.

Anyway everyone else who has a card please feel free to comment on the stock cooler performance, your temps, and the noise of the cooler. Also any other aftermarket solutions not mentioned in this post.

:)

Nice thread idea, be useful :)

Just out of interest what program do you use on nV cards to alter the fan speed, ATi Tool? Also to stress? Been a bit out of the loop nV-wise

thanks

I would think the card would need more voltage before the stock cooler would fail to cool it.

The reason for changing for me would be noise but as its no louder than a GTS GTX I think i may just stay with the stock cooling.

Of course if you fit a Vf900 and see huge gains I will change in a jiffy!

Yay, I don't have to buy a G80 adapter plate for my coming MCW60!!!!

...now I need to buy a 8800GT :(
