I'd like to know as well.
I just read...

We already knew most of the details on the MSI Wind, but the Atom-based ultraportable just got official US pricing and availability today -- and just like we hoped, it got a little cheaper on the trip over. Although there'll be both 8.9-inch and 10-inch versions worldwide, we're only getting the 10-inch in both XP and Linux flavors, starting June 3rd. The SuSE version will feature that 1.6GHz Atom, 512MB of RAM, 80GB hard drive, and a 3-cell battery rated at 2.5 hours of use for $399, while the XP edition will come in at $549 with 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth, and a larger 6-cell battery good for 5.5 hours. There's also apparently going to be a $500 "base" XP edition, but details on that are pretty sparse at the moment. Looks like ASUS had better get that Atom-based Eee 900 out by June as planned if it wants to keep up, eh?

seems pap to me.

I want an atom based umpc, upgradeable ram, 9" screen, SSD & linux.

Otherwise I'll wait for EEE PC 900A

Wish HP would just release a new version of the HP TC1100 Tablet PC. I fished mine out the wardrobe to see how XP would run on it (I last used it with Vista) and it's been a pleasure to use. Problem is both the batteries I have for it are knackered, one is totally dead the other less than an hour of usage.

I've been looking at the HP Mini-Note but that VIA chip turns me right off of it.

Pros:Battery life, storage space, size of keyboard, screen size.
Cons:price, size, weight, storage type (no shock resistant SSD).

It'll occupy it's own little niche though, somewhere between the 900 and proper mobile full laptops (which it's still a lot cheaper than). I'm interested but I'd need to see it in the flesh. Unfortunate name though :)

I like the 10" msi better than the new eeepc however I'm holding out to see what dell produce (they're supposedly making one), if they can knock out a full blown pc for 300 quid then they should be able to knock out a mini pc for a fair price :)
The other alternative for me is the rumoured atom powered mac tablet, if this comes through and doesn't cost more than a small house I might consider that instead :)

i don't like how the XP machine is higher spec'd, i'd rather save the money on the license but have the better machine with linux and layout the drive how i see fit.

the eeepc needs competition however so it's all good.

screen on this looks very nice, LED backlit, thats ventuiring into apple air territory.
You know I think all the EEEs made so far have been LED backlit also, at least according to the specs I can find. At the time they launched no one seemed to mention it (even though it's a big deal IMO) so I'd just assumed they were CCFL backlit, but I guess not.

that's from the link below, and the MSI rep definitely mentions the main 10" XP version as having a 6 cell battery-

Just read the 10" is only available in the U.S. Is this true?
I've read that the only version available in the US is the 10", but not that the 10" is only available in the US.
