MSI Wind

Does anyone know if you will be able to upgrade the HD yourself. The only thing that is bothering me about this laptop is the small HD. The portability is diminished if you have to also carry USB HD.

Yes the HD can be replaced with any 2.5" SATA HDD or SSD.

So any word yet if OCUK are going to be stocking these in, seems the other retailer has currently pulled the MSI Wind from their systems :s

Thats great news about the HDD. What about the RAM? Can the be replaced or is built into the motherboard?

Initial pics seem to look like the 1gb included might be attached to the board and non-removable, however there is a 2nd memory slot to increase the memory size.

Thread revival and more new info,

Msi Wind Hands on:

http://crave.cnet.co.uk/laptops/0,39029450,49297128-1,00.htm

We've just had an exclusive hands-on with the MSI Wind, which we liked the look of in March, and by golly it's good. So good, in fact, that it could take the throne from the Asus Eee PC as the best mini laptop on the planet.

Sounds good to me so glad I waited and didnt go for an asus 900. I think we should officially endorse the wind as the OcUK official UMPC as it has this feature:

What's more, the CPU can be overclocked by about 20 per cent using a dedicated button and MSI's TurboDrive Engine

So if it has an Atom running at 1.6 Ghz then this will boost it to approx. 2.0 Ghz!! Personally cant wait to see this in the flesh but i really like the look of the Dell too........ :)

Cheers,
Hugest

Eech, that's not so quick, should be good enough for surfing and videos though...

I hope oneday we get £250 with the 6cell, XP or not.

So it seems that the wind will available from the UK supplier at for £345 and will be available from mid July. I thought it was supposed to be released in June? I wanted to get one before I went on holiday in July...argh

I'm as inpatient as the next person ! But Now I'm going to wait until August as there are Loads of new Mini Laptops coming out.

Something with a Dual core Atom ,SSDHD, good screen and battery life would last a couple of Years or so.....all the current stuff seems to have a 1 month product life

Two of the sku's are supposed to be available this month with the rest to follow in july.

That price seems quite high compared to the rrps I have seen (mind you with MSI god only knows).

For a Product that is around about Launch there is little about UK pricing and availability around the Web !

Again MSI's fault, they have been telling resellers not to list the product as the Atom was under NDA until computex (I believe), they should start to pop up on sites within the next week or so, I know the distie was going to order a few thousands pcs but not sure what mix of skus they have ordered. There will prolly be a **** up and they will all turn up as pink models or something.

just a quick question, if i were to get this laptop... would it be possible to plug it into my monitor and get a higher resolution?? is the laptop screen that's the limiting factor or the graphics card in the laptop??

is the same for most other laptops aswell??
