Hello,

After not having a desktop for 9months (using laptop) I've decided to get a new desktop for gaming.

I haven't kept upto date with hardware for the past 9months :(

I need a CPU, Ram (2Gb), motherboard, graphics card and PSU.

Update:-Bought case, ram, dvd-rw drive and PSU

I agree about the waiting, doing it myself and getting more excited every day (yes, i'm sad, i know), but it's always so hard when you could just click and have it now...

Hmm In benchmarks it seems to out perform the 8800GTS and is about £30 cheaper

You might want to check that you aren't getting confused between the 8800GTS 320/640mb and the newer G92 cored 512mb version. The newer version is a significantly better card, think of it as an 8800GTX is slightly different clothes.

The 8800GTS seems to do better when AA/AF are enabled compaired to the 3870

I think It would be better spend the extra and go for the

Asus GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Could I save any money by getting a lower gfx card? such as the basic GT or basic GTS instead of a OC version?

Yes easily, most 8800GT cards will overclock to similar levels, it is simply that the OC2 model comes pre-overclocked so you have a guarantee it will run at those speeds rather than simply a very strong likelihood.

Should I wait for the
Asus GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail to come in stock for £146

or get the OcUK GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail for £111?

What size of monitor do you have? 1280x1024 or 1440x900 sort of area then I'd go with the 8800GT, larger than that I might suggest the 8800GTS.

1280x1024

I don’t want to have replace the card this year I plan on playing the same games as I used to but also new games that are now out and ones that will come out this year

HL2, CSS, BF2, COD4 ... mainly FPS

which is why I want to know if I should pay a little more and get the GTS
