E8600 from OcUK..

They hav'nt been about long enough for anyone to really know if one "batch" is better than another "batch" :)

My E8500 (also a good sample and did 4.5GHZ) needed 1.328v to be Orthos stable at 4GHZ.

This is my new E8600 after 1 day and I have not tried lowering voltage any more so far, I will though. ;)

Possibly but over at etreme systems results are showing the week 22 is a lot better than week 20
While I think there are some very knowledgable computer enthusiasts that post at Xtreme forums I also know that the majority of posters are teenagers who drink waaay to much cola!

The trouble is how can you tell which is which? I would take any advice you pickup in Xtreme with a huge pinch of salt unless its from one of several well known posters.

If your in a position to buy an E8600 now just get it, you will end up with an awsome processor that eats any task you through at it and that's all you really need to know right now!

Have fun and I will look for your results if you get one before me!

That looks promising, look forward to seeing your final 24/7 speeds and eventual stability screens.

Well you will be waiting a very long time if you read my other posts.

This Mobo cant even boot at 1700FSB with a 45nm Dual Core unlike when I had a 65nm E6850 at 1900FSB.

My E8500 @4.5GHZ was done on a 780I which I owned 2-3weeks and got rid of as it was a POS.

So basically I'm stuck till I get a new Mobo and none out now float my boat.

The above is Orthos stable with no CPU fan running, I don't need post proof to prove to myself. ;)

Its probably just causeits getting late but this statement confuses me, "how do you tell which is which" i gues yu are referring to week number whichis written on the box and surely if the majority of a certain week are out clocking another week than it must be better

Sure you don't need proof to prove something to yourself but by the same token therefore you don't have to tell everyone about your clocks either, just keep it all to yourself! :p

The rest of us will do the homework and share our findings using screenies and as concise information as possible so that those that follow behind have something substantial to work with and help speed them on their way to the max stable overclock, you can join in if you want (and can be bothered?).

"how do you tell which is which"
Hey Cliffy, no I meant who's post are you reading, a silicon guru's or a bloated teen who farts out his mouth! :D

On one hand there is merit in seeking a good cpu and helping your chances of getting a winner but on the other hand there is a danger of over obsessing about trivial details and hampering your chances of making a purchase that will satisfy you i.e Ohhhh I should have got this week chip, made in that country, with this stepping and that certain run etc etc

This topic is ridiculous, can't even believe I am posting in it TBH, (grumble grumble!) :o

I'm to tired, now i totally get what your saying and actually pretty much totally agree although i am always curious as to what people batch number is

I agree on most of your suggestion on E8600 except buying it. Cos it's heavenly overpriced at the moment. It hits the same price mark as Q9450 which has much better value than E8600. I'll wait until it dives to 120 quids.

A ugly sticker is over the corner of my Intel sticker so out of the Packed Date I can only see the day lol.

After doing some reading it seems the FPO# part is the Batch/Week and some have Q820 for Week 20.

The E8600 I got from OCUK is Q822 for Week 22.

I ordered one on Friday, so it should be here Monday, along with an Asus P5Q-E board. I'll be checking this thread and posting my own comments.

This's very impressive indeed! I'm wondering how it clocks under 1.45v. Would it break 5G mark?:) BTW, do you think water-cooling can help clocking on E8600? Cos I really doubt it since its extreme low heat.

I stated in another thread I cant take it much higher as my POS Mobo + 45nm CPU's or possibly the Bios for these 45nm Dual Cores limits my FSB, I cannot even boot to Windows at 1900FSB (425) where as I could run Orthos stable with 1900 FSB (475) on 65nm Dual Core.

I used to run 4.5GHZ on the E8500 using a Striker II Formula but I got rid of it as it was a POS more so for general stability and heat.

So basically I'm stuck till I decide on a new Mobo or Asus give more Bioses that do not have Holes in them as I think that's the issue here.

And yes the cooler a CPU has a better chance of reaching a higher OC or attaining a certain OC with less voltage than needed that if it was hotter.

Any thoughts on which board you might go for next? It's a shame you can't get the best out of the 8600 right now. :(
