E8600 from OcUK..

"my POS Mobo"

For goodness sake get yourself a decent motherboard and stop complaining!

It's not good reading POS this POS that etc etc :o

You have a wonderful chip there and a great speed, what exactly is it gonna take to make u happy? :D

It is a POS, I tried a 780I and I do not like any current Mobo after 100's of hours of reading.

Striker II Extreme, only DDR3 cost a lot of money for a good kit of 4-8GB and its been out a while now and some don't seem to clock and others do

Rampage Extreme again DDR3 as above, hot NB and again some don't seem to clock and others do.

Maximus II Formula, nice and cheap to fit with 4-8GB of good high end DDR2, again hot NB and some clock and some don't.
If it did clock really high like 2500-2600FSB (625-650), the DDR2 would need be able to reach 1250-1300mhz which is rare and even DDR2 at 1250mhz still cost a lot of money for 2GB never mind 4-8GB.

I am happy to not go any further, does it really gain anything ?.

Also I ain't really moaning, I simply need repeat myself a lot when peeps expect/await me to OC it further when I can't as I have explained now 3x, the MAX would be somewhere bellow 4.25GB due to the FSB limits. ;)

I simply state the 680I and 780I are POS at every op. :)

Any thoughts on which board you might go for next? It's a shame you can't get the best out of the 8600 right now. :(

No as nothing out now "floats my boat", 775 is still to be made even though new Intel socket out soon.

I've been in the 4.5GHZ club and part from Orthos etc, there ain't much you can do with it, no game needs that speed yet and I don't encode much these days hense I am on a Dual.

I live and hope I can get a great Mobo to use till around June 09 then go new Intel socket. ;)

All the Mobo's I use for Customer builds are mid range and great, its the Top of the range £200-270 ones that you read about with major issues.

I think they simply put too much on them and try get too much out of them. :(

The Asus P5Q-E Mobo your buying is very nice as I did once 2 weeks ago, still I would have got the Deluxe instead of E if it was not an issue of money for the customer (mainly due to better SB cooling if your gonna OC it. ;)

Well i'm running my E8600 at 4.1Ghz so far with 1.25v. I had this voltage set already when I set my E8400 back to stock before swapping out CPU's. So it may do it on less volts. At the moment I'm trying to find the max Mhz for 1.25v using Orthos.

Looking good so far.

Oh it a week 22 chip

Is DDR2 PC8500 the best choice for this CPU and an Abit IP35 PRO ? If so what brand?

I will also be buying the new Thermalright and 120mm, as I am not impressed with my Tuniq Tower.

Well as soon as I pass 1.3v temps start to rise dramatically(sp?)

Max temp for 4.2Ghz with 1.28v was 57C using an XP-90 with a quiet panaflo 90mm fan.

Max temp running 4.4Ghz with 1.4v using same fan was 75C and failed test. So I stuck my delta 120mm on it and it was stable at 4.4Ghz with 1.4v max temp 63c

I wonder if my Ultima 90i will do any better? I can't be bothered taking my system apart at the moment lol.

So I think i'll stick to 4.2Ghz for 24/7 use and 4.4 to what ever I get for benching once my graphics card situation is sorted(down to a single Ultra :( poor me huh? :) )

Hmm just received a week 20 E8600 from OcUK. Hope it's not a duffer. Will try it out tonight. FPO# Q820A670

I have an SI-128 but that was no better than my Xp-90

Bad cooler m8.

There is no way a 90mm like Artic Coolings Freezers (pure example) cool as well or as quietly as Noctua or TR's 120mm jobs.

Look at my 1st post on the E8600 with my Noctua and no fan running at 4GHZ @ 1.056v, think idle was 35C and Load was 55C or if you prefer 60C in Coretemp.

Ultima 90i installed, Pretty easy to do, you just have to take your time.

I had to remove the side fan bracket from my case as the 120mm fans on the heatsink get in the way.

So with less case airflow and 2 yate loon 1650rpm 120mm fans strapped to the Ultima 90i my max load temp at 4.2Ghz with 1.28v has went from 57C to 50C, Not bad huh?

I'm using real temp.
