After having watched this video, I can't see the downsides to this in any way shape or form. It may be slightly flimsier but you don't exactly go and tear plugs to shreds for fun. Here's the concept video:

What a solid invention / reinvention, are there any reasons why, with a good prototype built in that these can't prosper? What do you think?

Especially the surge protector type device, that'd be a godsend!

There are simpler fold-in plugs already available - http://www.slimplug.com/how.html but they're pretty damn expensive, but worth it if you're always lugging your laptop around with you in my opinion.

I know it's only a plug, but what do you think? & are there any reinventions you'd like to see to become a staple in the UK home?

Note: not a youtube thread, thread simply accompanied by video.

First thing it needs to get proper VC funding is standard approval mark.

I like the idea of multiples however there may be reasons for the size of the other plugs such as withstanding an impact or having the cable pulled.

The video is a good example of viral marketing too.

Looks great, however moving parts like that are always going to be prone to wear and tear. Pretty much the only downside I can see to it.

Fantastic idea, I'd think it would be robust enough to take a few knocks.

Would like to see this take off, I'd definitely be getting some to stick on my laptop and phone chargers.

It would stop it hurting so much when you tread on them too :p

It looks like a very good design and might even be easier to wire from an automation perspective due to the fact that it is flat. The fact that it's backwards compatible also means that there wouldn't have to be a massive upgrade program in place to change everybodys' sockets.

Absolutely brilliant innovation there, it's rare to see these days.

I can see apple buying the idea up and then not allowing anyone else to use it though :(
