Reinventing the Great British Plug?

01:43 in the clip. :)

Looks very good though,Some of our plugs are way too bulky. :/

Most UK plugs that don't have anything extra (IE adaptors) are about the same size.
It's the adaptors that are bulky, and that's usually because it's cheaper to bung the voltage conversion unit into the plug body, it saves on some wiring, and having a separate box for the transformer etc.

Personally I've never had an issue with a standard UK plug, and would much rather we kept them than this folding plug, which will not be as strong.
I can see the folding plug having a place, but mainly as the end connector for a mains adaptor (which will still be bulkier than even a normal plug).

Exactly! It's one reason why I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Does that make me a little weird? :D

North American plugs are the worst. At least the two pronged european plugs are a bit more sturdy and not two 1mm thick bits of wire... Both wobble around way too much though!

I like how it folds flat, awesome design, and the multi-socket is great too. Another positive is that if I stepped on one of those plugs wouldn't hurt as much if it was folded and flat. :p

I don't know why people are suggesting it'll be flimsier than a normal plug, I mean I mostly just plug my plugs in to a wall socket but I guess if you regularly go rock climbing with a mains plug and a 20 metre length of cable then I could appreciate your problem. Seriously though, what do you do with your plugs that means you require them to be able to withstand a nuclear fallout?

I thought it was a fantastic idea and I think it still is now its come down to it being released, I won't be buying one any time soon at 25 notes but I think it could well end up on the list ones the price starts coming down.

If you've ever had some of the cheap adaptors supplied with some devices you'd know the sort of issue I'm worried about.

I've seen the plastic earth prongs from mobile chargers break off after after someone has snagged the cable as they walk past.

A normal plug is a fairly sturdy bit of plastic with no moving parts and metal pins.
This plug has what appear to be plastic hinges, a plastic earth pin and by the looks of it a thinner plastic body, those don't give me the impression it'll be able to stand up to much accidental abuse (IE being dropped/knocked off a desk).

The UK plug is amazing. The prongs form a triangle, which means that the connection into the mains is sturdy as hell. Long live the current design tbh. :D

i would buy a houses worth tomorrow if they were available and built well.

give a good warranty and keep production in the UK. job done.

Wait, so what exactly is the point of these other than on travel items like phone or laptop chargers? I've never thought to myself "Damn, these plugs are huge!". Hell, they'd only be useful for traveling around the UK since the space saved will be pretty minimal when you'll have to use adapters.

have you never had a battle with a 6 way block? trying to squash it in behind an AV cabinet or behind you computer desk? ever trodden on one?

innovation is the way forward.
