Synopsis

Giant Bomb Wiki said:
Brütal Legend is a rock-based open-world action adventure game by Psychonauts developer Double Fine, and published by EA for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. This game will feature voice talent from Jack Black, Motörhead bassist and vocalist Lemmy Kilmister, Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford, and Ozzy Osbourne.

The game tells the story of a roadie named Eddie Riggs who, while working for a faux heavy metal band is crushed by a collapsing set, causing his blood to fall onto his cursed belt buckle. This awakens the buckle which transports him into a strange world of rock, where half-boar, half-motorcycle creatures roam the land, spandex-covered temples are the norm, and forests of stacked-up tires are common place. Here he meets Ophelia, and together they form a resistance movement against the corrupt tyrant of this world, Lord Dolivicus, and his glam-metal general, Lionwhyte. Now our hero must use his axe and his V-Factor guitar to recruit soldiers for his army and take down Dolivicus.

Brütal Legend will play as a third-person action game, where the player directly controls Eddie Riggs. The player will be able to fight using Eddie's battle-axe or his guitar, the latter of which will have the ability to summon pyrotechnics out of the ground to damage enemies, as well as perform a move called the Face Melter, which will cause your enemy's face to literally melt off. Eddie will also have a drop-top coupe named Deuce that he can use to travel the world and run over anything in his path. Later in the game Eddie be able to recruit different units, such as the headbangers, by playing a guitar solo called the Battle Cry. Once Eddie has recruited them he will be able to command them in battle and do special double team moves with them for maximum brutal victory.

The game is being lead by former Lucas Arts designer Tim Schafer.

SiD the Turtle's Guide to ***Official*** Thread Etiquette

Here's some simple advice on posting in 'official' threads. Feel free to copy/paste this into your own threads.

  1. Obey general forum rules such as not hotlinking images and not posting links to competitors
  2. If you are a pirate: good for you. Remember no piracy talk e.g. talking about leaked releases.
  3. If you are lucky enough to receive the game before release (lots of people tend to receive a game in the post the day before release), forum rules suggest you post a picture of the game with a loaf of bread. Hovis is preferred, though not required. Warburtons is grounds for permaban.
  4. If you want to post spoilers try to colour the text in the same colour as the forum background (1C5780), eg: Spoiler (highlight to read)I am your father!(End spoiler). Try not to post spoilers before the release date.
  5. Don't start console wars, they just take the thread off on a 20-page tangent.

Anyone looking forward to this as much as me?

I am. :)

I doesn't seem that there's too much interest here though, but I'm wondering how many people have actually heard of Tim Schafer.

As far as I'm concerned he's a genius. The game will be so funny to play.

Anybody still on the wall should take a look at Tim's games CV.

# 1987 Maniac Mansion, tools programmer, SCUMM (LucasArts)
# 1990 The Secret of Monkey Island, co-writer (LucasArts)
# 1991 Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, co-designer, co-writer (LucasArts)
# 1993 Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle, co-designer, co-producer, co-director, co-writer (LucasArts)
# 1995 Full Throttle, writer, designer, project leader (LucasArts)
# 1998 Grim Fandango, project leader, writer, designer (LucasArts)
# 2005 Psychonauts, creative director, co-writer, designer (Double Fine, Majesco)

As far as I'm concerned it's a flawless list of brilliant games. :)

If any one wants a quick free sample of his writing he released a free flash game earlier this year in the style of the old point & click adventure games he used to work on.

I really can't wait for Brutal legend. :)

It does look very Guitar Hero-y-ish. The character model for the main character would fit in perfectly on the guitar hero stage.

Have to fully agree with ‘orderof theflame’ Tim Schafer wrote some of the most remembered games for me, ‘secret of monkey island’, ‘full throttle’ and ‘grim fandango’ perhaps being the best games I’d played until he and his funny way of writing games disappeared.

‘full throttle’ is still a game I love to fire up on my PC using SCUMM vm every now and then, anyone who is too young to have played some of his games would do well to search youtube for them, as they are published as longplay videos, in fact Xbox360 are lucky enough to have ‘secret of monkey island’ available via Xbox Live download…

Well worthy of a look IMO.

Thanks for posting this, no idea about the game, but if its anything like his past work, then this’ll be one funny and entertaining game…..

Upon saying this, looks like this game contains a bit more 'blood' and brutality then his pervious outings, hence the title name.. lol

It has Thus Spake the Nightspirit by Emperor in it, it HAS to be good.

Well going by your sig, guess you're a bit of a 'Emperor' fan...:) bit of Norwegian black metal for light listening never hurt anyone..;) lol

Anthrax and slayer had me, not to mention a bit of Judas Priest thrown in for good measure...

As said, Oct /Nov could be expensive...

If you have a Twitter account, @BrutalLegend is giving out demos apparently.

They want you to send a message stating why you want it, on what system, and add the tag #BrutalLegend

Anyone looking forward to this as much as me? Looks like a load of fun, though I was hyped thinking the demo was out today, but it's not out for a while. :(

Me, me, me!

One of my pre-ordered games this month, simply because I want Double Fine to have as much of my money as possible (FIFA 10 et al will have to be rentals!)

I'll have to add my fellow Schafer fanboys to my friends list for some multiplayer action when its out. :D

I've been looking forward to this for ages.
Unfortunately it comes out at the same time as uncharted 2 and i'll be getting that game first.
