Massive earthquake hits Chile

Can't see that it did, might be wrong here but I thought it was usually quakes out at sea which caused them (e.g. 2005). This one happened inland. I think they tend to dish them out now anyway.

Well, I'm in two minds:

1) Chile can go **** itself given the "Latin American" support for Argentina.

2) Britain should do the most it can (read: the littlest it can get away with) to help Chile. Then when Argentina kick off, Chile can tell them to stfu.

I can imagine we will support Chile and try to gain some support.

My friend's grandfather died recently and his mother, as well as other family went somewhere just outside the affected area to attend the funeral. They are staying just offshore though. I hope nothing bad happens :(

So how many millions are we going to give away that we don't have this time:(

Don't start this again.

We have an International Aid budget for these things and the amount spent is insignificant.

UK budget 2009: Total Revenue £496 billion (wikipedia)

So 0.00003% (taking the £15m) of our total revenue goes to a third world country suffering a natural disaster worse than anything we could expect given our climate. Boo ******* Hoo.

We have it, we can afford it and we will spend it if we have to.

Now back on topic, just heard on the news, many Pacific countries are now on Tsunami watch.

You don't understand. I simply don't care about helping countries out that would do **** all to help us if the tables were turned.
If you live in an earthquake risk zone then it will happen at some point.

I can only image the mess America will get in when the fault line in California goes off...

Chilean President Michelle Bachelet on Friday reiterated support for Argentina's rights over the Malvinas Islands and stressed the "strategic" ties between the two countries.

"Chile has always taken the only posture of recognizing the legitimate rights of Argentina on the Malvinas Islands," Bachelet said in Mar del Plata, after attending the ceremony.

"On this occasion I want to express my deepest conviction about the strategic importance of our bilateral ties," Bachelet said.
