Due tomorrow. Bit weird to start this thread when the OP doesn't have one, nor any overclocking results from one. What makes it "official"?

Benchmarks [post=16165766]here[/post] anyway

Thanks. Going to show my girlfriend those numbers and see if it sways her. Who needs a couch to sit on when you have gorgeous overclocks like that.

Somehow I don't think it will go down well ;) It will probably be somewhere along the lines of "Either I get my sofa or you get a slap(and no CPU)"

It's very easy... just let her buy something ridiculous first.. then she can have no arguement

I'm curious now, what did your lady buy before you started down the thermoelectric road?

The 980X is 32nm, whereas the 920 is 45nm. Both have a stated vid range of 0.8 to 1.375. Historically as process size decreases, vulnerability to voltage increases. Overclockers tend to use the high end of the vid range as the maximum safe voltage, so I imagine people will take 1.4V as the limit for these processors.

I wonder if we'll see any degrading over the next few months. Not many accounts of the i3 chips dying off yet, so perhaps 32nm marks an end to the trend of lower process size requiring lower voltages. I can't say I'd want to gamble a 850 pound processor on this trend ending with this particular process shrink, best of luck to everyone who does.

In particular good luck to ocuk, if the 4ghz bundles are running at 1.35V or above then the 12 month warranty may come back to hurt them.

edit: spent some time reading the intel spec finder, the trend looks fairly approximate anyway. Perhaps all will be well.
