Xonar DG - ultimate budget headphone card?

It's running a chopped down 6 channel version of the chip from the pricier cards.... wouldn't expect it to out and out suck though, even then (hopefully).

Headphone amp and jack sensing though.... that's mighty tempting to bin the DX!

/me awaits full reviews

That looks immense for value. Btw what resistance headphones can a Xonar DX or D2X drive well?

Definately needs some reviews on it asap :o

I only game with headphones so these look like a winner!

Are these likely to be any better than my onboard though, especially as I have the top of the line ASUS Crosshair IV motherboard?

Definitely likely to be an improvement than onboard, if you're using decent headphones :)

Cheers I might just have to pick this up. :)

Just another question if you would be so kind. What kind of onboard do ASUS use on their motherboards? I would assume that as they also make soundcards anyway the onboard, especially on the top end boards, would be a Xonar chip of some type?

I wish it just had a full sized headphone jack :(

I want to see some reviews vs the essence to see if the £100 saving outweighs the drop in performance.

Well i went ahead and pre-ordered. I only have on-board sound, so £25 seems a nice upgrade for when I wanna play with headphones on :)

Does it make much of a difference with sound cards PCI v PCI-E?

It might when computers stop supporting PCI devices, the parallel and serial ports have already dissapeared, the old IDE hard drive and floppy connectors and non existant on some new mobos, PCI is next in line to be dropped. For the price though i wouldnt be too concerned about that and apparently some people find the xonar PCI-E cards have lower sound quality than their PCI counterparts due to their PCI-E bridge chip they need, personally i dont believe that but its food for thought.

on the other hand, Serial ports, IDE and parallel devices stopped being used as soon as SATA and USB hit the scene.

PCI is still being used with considerable frequency considering how much of a flop PCIe 1x slots and cards were.
