Xonar DG - ultimate budget headphone card?

quick check before i purchase stuff for a friend

goldring 150
asus dg
Konig Audio Switch
speedlink mic clip on thingy

should all play nice together? friend has some cheapo creative 2.0 speakers, hence the switch

Might not need the switch if you just connect the front panel audio connectors to the card you can plug the headphones in the front of the PC, the speakers at the back.

Hello all, quick question. I already use the DS 7.1 PCI card, would I be better off sticking with my card or getting this one? I pretty much only use the PC to game with, and 99% of the time it's with cans on, just got a set of HS1A's, would these benefit from this card?

I would say the DS is the better card. Only no headphone amp on the DS. As far as I am aware no one here says the amp on the DG will work a miracle with the Corsair HS1a's, the Corsairs are a bit quieter then some headphones but sound ok.

I hope that assists.

For headphone or headset use, the DG is the better option.

I don't think the DS is enough of a jump, for the average user to notice over a DG.

DS does have DTS Connect, which makes it ideal for use with an AV receiver, but for headphone use, the DG is certainly the better choice.

The DG's headphone amp would be of use if you find you want more volume than the DS can provide.

Just plumbed in one of these sound cards and my question is this. From my case I have 2 connector blocks which are AC97 and HD audio! Which of these are best plugged into the card if any?

I've seen some bad chat about the Xonar DG due to a fair bit of RMA'ing and hardware failure. It's kind of putting me off of the purchase of one, at their fair price.

Maybe it's because it's ASUS's most popular (and cheapest) card, and the fail-rates are average vs the lower sales rates of other Xonar product lines. Or the fail rates are just plain high vs the Xonar DX, etc.

Either way, with the Xonar DG problems I've seen, I'm being swayed towards a DX...

Hi,

Would I be right in thinking that the headphone amp on the DG will not work for an analogue 5.1 headset as it will not be using the headphone setting?
I'm guessing I will have to use 5.1 speaker setting as the connectors are the 4 x analogue (including mic)?
Not sure if I'm firing wide of the mark as I don't get the card till tomorrow so not sure of the setup etc.

Not to worry, I installed the DG yesterday and quite happy with the sound improvement through 5.1 (pretty impressed tbh).

Installed the DG today with latest drivers along with an aging but perfectly functioning Altec Lansing 5100 5.1 speaker system.

I've selected 2 channels (tried 4 and 6 also), 96Htz, 5.1 speakers and no other options ticked within the DG Audio Centre.

The problem i have is that when it does its sound test the left and right rear surround speakers both kick in at the same time for the left and right check (they don't sound out independently.) Also the subwoofer comes out of the front when i was expecting a deep hum.

I will google the problem tomorrow when i'm not so knackered but if anyone has an immediate insight it to my problem it would be greatly appreciated.

You should select 6 channels and 5.1 speakers, the test if they sound right.

The button next to the sound volume icon (under Analog out) will allow you to swap center/bass output.

Thanks for the reply Mr Krugga

EDIT: Problem resolved via fluke.

I've just unplugged all the cables from the subwoofer and reconnected them and it's cured the problem. They all seemed firmly in place originally but this method sometimes works for computer internals so i thought i would give it a try.

Thanks for your input Mr Krugga appreciated.
