Been thinking about going to silverstone this year. First time i've been to a grandprix, so just looking for a bit of advice on tickets. Heard good things about Becketts, any other suggestions?

Also what should you take to a grandprix. Been thinking, food, beer and kangroo tv.

Hey Mavers, I also going to the grand prix this year for the first time im going for the hole weekend. :D

The best spots are as follows for pictures. Copes, the old start finish straight, and stowe, not to mension the new arena area. :)

Maggots and Beckets is crazy for getting close to the cars, there is a real sensation of speed :)

But I havn't been to silverstone since the Le mans series last year so I don't know what the new pit comples is like for photos ect.

But a great track all round. :)

Copy of my reply to a similar thread a while back:

I have been to Silverstone 4 times in the last 6 years. Bronze is now dead.

Bronze used to be epic, you could sit anywhere from Becketts all the way round to Bridge with great views. Club corner banking was great as you got a view from Stowe right through to the Abbey Chicane.

However, first they built a grandstand on half the bank at Club, then the built one on the straight to Abbey, and then this year that will be the start finish straight so I would assume the whole area will be Grandstand only. They have also got rid of the large Bronze area infront of the Maggots/Becketts grandstands.

So, you will definately need a Grandstand ticket. I had a Grandstand last year. You get an allocated seat for the Sunday, but a roaming ticket for Friday and Saturday so you can sit in any grandstand. Naturally, I sat everywhere.

On Sunday we were in Luffield B, which overlooks the complex and final corner. It was a good spot on the old layout, but with the new layout you would want to move round one to Woodcote A to get a view down the new straight from the Arena section. With the start finish straight moving, these tickets might be less in demand this year.

On the Friday and Saturday we moved around. the Arena grandstands are good for views of the Arena section, and you are quite close to the track. However, your view is limited to just the Arena section. The Beckectts grandstand opposite is higher up, so not only do you get a view of the epicly fast Maggots/Becketts complex, but you can also see over to the Arena and down the Wellington straight (might want a zoom lense though). The only issue with this grandstand is it isnt covered, so if it rains, you get wet, and if it doesnt, you will be sunburnt, guaranteed. (amendment, they have announced that Becketts will be totally covered this year!).

Stowe grandstands are ok, although not covered. Then you are round to the as yet non existant new start finish straight grandstands. The new pit building will block your view of the Vale, so you are limited to a view of the main straight only. For the same reason I was never interested in the old main straight grandstands, these will be a waste of time. Other than the start you will see no action.

So, my recommendations are either Woodcote A or Becketts. But make sure you move around on Friday and Saturday though.

Oh and also, with Bronze we were arriving at the track at 5:30am and fighting for a space. With a Grandstand you rock up when you feel like it and wander into your seat.

Kangaroo TVs are brilliant. Definately get one booked. As for food, you can take some yourself if you like. We used to do this, but carrying a bag round all fay gets very tiresome very quickly, so we now just take snacks and buy food in the circuit. Expect to pay stupid money though, but to me not having to carry a 10 tonne backpack was worth the £8 burger price!

If you are going for a bronze terrace or general admision ticket then get to the circuit very early on Sunday. Couple of years ago I had a bronze terrace for Copse, we got there at just after 8.00am and the terrace was practically full by then.

They also seem to sell the terrace tickets based on people standing, but seeing as everyone takes a chair, then they fill up quickly.

Foldout Chair (depending on your ticket of course)
Sunglasses
Sunscreen
Earplugs
Apples
Water

Personally I wouldn't use earplugs, the noise is why I go.

Also add a hat or cap. A brolly, water proofs and something warm just in case. I've been to Silverstone in August to see the GP Masters and I've never been so cold and wet in my life and I had waterproofs, a brolly and lots of layers on.

I'd also recommend Kangaroo TV, other than who won the race I really had no idea what had gone on during the race and had to watch the race when I got home.

Got tickets for Woodcote A!

Just trying to determine the best route of getting there from London. Is it worth driving say to milton keynes then getting a bus/shuttle to the track?

My first year too this year, really looking forward to it! I understand 5 live do radio coverage of F1? anyone taken an AM radio with them before?

Yeah you can take a radio or rent the Kangeroo TV set which gives you DAB 5 Live (as well as the TV bit of course).

If you are going to drive, get a parking pass and park at the track. They turn the dual carriageway into a 4 lane 1 way system from each direction so driving in and out actually flows quite well. I've parked every time I've been.

Yes R5 do it, but Kangaroo (now called Fanvision) is the way to do it. Mini TV with live streaming if the TV feed, plus a choise of comantary (including R5), plus driver tracker, timing screens, replay, onboard cameras, 4 way split screens, and highlight videos and things when there is no racing on. Its the best £70 I have ever spent on an F1 weekend!

Have they said where they're likely to put the DRS area? I'd guess either the new or the old start/finish straights would be the most likely.

I have been thinking about this.

The old start finish straight is a no as Copse is flat(ish) so isn't an overtaking spot, and they definitely wont want them running through it with the flap open.

Then theres the new straight, which again has an almost flat first corner, so suffers the same problem.

This leaves 2 more areas. 1 being the Hanger straight down to Stowe, and the second being the Wellington straight into Brooklands. Personally, I don't think Stowe is enough of an overtaking oportunity for them to put it there, so I think they should use the Wellington straight. With Luffield after theres also a good chance for people to fight back.

I think you need to buy at least 2 tickets to get a parking permit. When I went 2 years ago the permit was an extra £30 or something but this year I can't get one but I think parking is free on friday. For the sat/sun you'll have to do the park and ride system if you don't get a permit with 2 or more tickets. Also don't think about just taking a chance and parking anyway, when I came out on all 3 days the car park was littered with lovely yellow parking fines on windows of all the cars with no permit in. They must have made a fortune!

Well me and a m8 booked on the International pit straights grandstand for the sunday just across from podium :) im soo looking forward to it after watching f1 for 15 years thought it was about time to get my finger out before they swap to pussy engines, i also got a parking permit for £30.
