come on, someone had to make this thread.

both dual core , next generation phones

i know on paper the samsung galaxy S2 is slightly ahead

but how are they in real world use ?

i cant decide between the two.

Depends what you want from a phone I guess, I went for the GS2 as its so slim and light, one thing I always hated about the desire hd it felt like you had a brick in the pocket.

Unlocked boot loader is a big plus for the GS2, also the screen was one of the big factors for me, can't see a problem with the build quality of the GS2 it doesn't feel flimsy or anything and with a case on who notices these things.

I certainly wouldn't change from the this phone for me I would say Samsung have hit the nail on the head with this phone 16gb internal storage and 1gb ram and can take a 32gb micro sd card. Sensation has a poor 1gb storage and 768mb ram and the same 32gb card can be put in.

If you are a Sense lover then its an easy choice but I feel there are better launchers on the market and I bet most people use Launcher pro/AWD Launcher/GO Launcher anyway.

If you love HTC Sense and don't ever want to flash custom Roms etc - Sensation

For everything else - Galaxy S II

Having moved from a HTC Hero to an SGS2, I must admit I do miss certain things about Sense UI a bit. TouchWiz is very nice overall and it's very fluid, but it lacks the finishing touches like the widgets, lockscreen and animations that Sense has. It's not a major issue by any means, and I certainly felt the SGS2 was the better phone overall anyway hence why I got one, but it's something I think Samsung need to keep in mind when they're developing their interface further.

Agreed but you have to weigh up the pros and cons of what you lose to what you are gaining!!!
Taken from the SGS2 thread but writen by myself

"Ok had a quick play with mine on Saturday found the battery to be insane for a big screen phone.
Liked the HTC way of doing things much better but after using the G2 for a while it kinder grew on me and now I like it.
The HTC had a very crisp high treble that used to hurt my ear drums if someone spoke too loud - the G2 sounds perfect in my ear no more pain in my ear drums.

The HTC (Desire) had no bass and no equalizer, mostly very high crisp treble sound and the loud speaker was not loud at all- the G2 comes with an equaliser and the loud speaker is what it says loud!!

Another thing that the HTC did that i found a tad odd was that the phone numbers in the details section were very tiny - with the G2 I can see them very clearly.

One thing I need is a good weather app - free of course the HTC version is a lot better than the G2 version that cant even find my location in bucks !!!!
I have had a look in the market place but i would like some recommendations please and it must be able to see ALL countries in the world and be able to forecast a few days into the week as the G2 is unable to do either.

One last note the clock is unable to find other countries that my HTC used to find with ease could someone recommend me a free app for this as well and yes I have been to the market place but user experience is vital to me."

I didn't like the look or feel of the GS2, so picked up the Sensation on Friday. Have until this Friday to see if it suits, if not, back it goes!

I find the added neat little things in the SGS II that Samsung have put all over the phone go beyond what HTC have. A logged clipboard, for example. Tap a piece of text and tap the cursor that appears, you can browse the clipboard history and paste at will which is neat.

Then there's the way the contacts app works and is logical in layout and usage as well as the landscape dialler (although I use Dialer One anyway). The Alarm Cloick on the GS II has some unique features compared to other Android handsets and Sense 3.0 that I have seen.

Sense does have some cool stuff too but not enough of the little things that make the speedy-user experience for my kind of usage worthwhile. Also you can't remove a lot of the Sense bulk without breaking Sense whereas on Touchwhiz you can (Samsung Hubs etc).

It's one reason why I ditched Sense on my Desire and installed AOSP. Samsung sproosed up the stock GB ROM and added some cool stuff, I want a powerful contacts manager with a good dialler and something that's speedy as well. I don't want to be forced to look at social integration with FB/Twitter every time I load the contacts app. like you get on Sense. I have the official apps for social networking and that's where I like to keep that sort of stuff.

Scrolling large lists on Sense is juddery at times too unlike on Samsung's ROM or AOSP.

I'm coming from a blackberry so I have no experience of either

Seems the htc interface has a lot going for it but the sg2 phone is slightly better

Ignoring the hardware for a second, Sense is brilliant if you use it all, and most, but not all, will agree. Otherwise, it's a massive slowdown. TouchWiz is very much a Marmite interface.

Presuming you don't use either, and go for a separate launcher, the Sensation hardware is made of aluminium; need I say more? However, you might prefer the display on the GS2.

Finally, customisability. Right now, SGS2. End of. That locked Sensation bootloader is going to kill everything for at least a couple of months, unless it gets broken. A real shame, as HTC was very supportive of the modding community before. Maybe things will change for the better; only time can tell.

In my opinion they are both two fantastic handsets. I had a Galaxy S II for about 10 days - I returned it as I might be leaving the UK soon and I didn't want to get tied into a 24month contract. I may get one or the other in the next few weeks once I know what I am doing.

In my opinion they have the following points

Samsung Galaxy S II
+Unlocked Bootloader
+Very lightweight
+Amazing screen, even if lower res
+Plays any media thrown at it
+More RAM + more internal storage

-Touchwiz is pants compared to sense
-For me it feels somewhat flimsy in the hand. I had severe concerns about how it would last 24months.

HTC Sensation
+ HTC Sense just blows touch wiz away as well as any other UI for Android
+ Feels much more sturdy in the hand
+ Amazing screen. Not as vivid as the Galaxy S II but higher res

-No native playback of MKVs
-Locked Bootloader
-Less RAM and hardly any on board storage

Overall both are really fantastic handsets though. I sold my iPhone4 about 3 weeks ago and both are streets ahead of it.

It's not going to break within 24 months just because you think it's flimsy (which it isn't).

Like I said, £50 is yours if mine doesn't last at least 18 months and still looks like new.

Example: The iPhone 4 has more chance of breaking when the glass back shatters after impact. This isn't a problem on the SGS because there isn't anything to shatter and teh Corning glass screen reinforces the whole device anyway which is why it doesn't bend or flex at all.

I want pictures in 18 months

:D

If you ask me, the Sense UI is overdone and gimmicky making it juddery. Plus it's probably eating the RAM up, of which there isn't that much. The lockscreen is very nice compared to Samsug, though I have modded mine with widgetlocker. After having AMOLED on my past 3 phones, I can't go back to anything else. Can't tell if I'm holding the phone in the dark! The blacks are that good! I think the camera is poor on the sensation too, tis what I heard. Don't know what people think of the sound (music) quality compared to GS2.

Would love to see a Sensation V's GS2 camera comparison as to me that is the only thing that is in the GS2's favour but I'm intrigued to know how much better it is over the Sensation
