Already qualified are group winners FC Bayern München, FC Internazionale Milano, Real Madrid CF, Arsenal FC and FC Barcelona plus SL Benfica, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, APOEL FC and AC Milan.

Seven more places are to be decided for the knockout phase.

What a week for English teams. I really hope they all make it through. Man city is the least likely but would rather see Man City in the last 16 than Napoli.

Man City vs Real Madrid has to happen. It just has to. Both are very similar. Power houses in their style they play.

I have all the faith that UTD will get a win but it'll be ugly and will have you sweating it out for the full 90 minutes. SAF always doing things the hard way.

Why? Napoli are a quality team playing good football.

I don't think they'll make it anyway, I don't see Villareal getting anything on Tuesday, and I don't think City will be able to turn over Bayern anyway.

What was the draw that would knock Chelsea out? Was it 1-1 or 2-2?

EDIT: They drew 1-1 at Valencia so hold second spot by the away goal. Presumably a 1-1 would put Valencia ahead on the overall GD?

Robert's a weird kind of football fan isn't he, I dont know one actual Man Utd supporter who would prefer City to be in the Champions League than Napoli

Even those that use the excuse that with no Champions League football City will be more focused on the league they'll still surely find some satisfaction & amusement in them going out at the first hurdle..... I know I will :D

That said I'm going for;

Chelsea beat Valencia
City beat Bayern & Napoli draw with Villarreal
United beat Basel & Benfica draw with Galati

LOL really???...id rather see Napoli get through to the last 16 than City, i have absolutely zero respect for a team that 'tries' to buy trophies with a team made up of players who have sold their soul for the pursuit of money.

Either way i dont really care if City get through or not, i dont think they will beat Bayern, maybe a draw at best for them.

Anyhow am happy that Arsenal can take it easy now that we have won the group and qualified for the last 16....maybe give the Ox an outing and see if he can bag some goals, will be a good experience for the lad.

Gotta get it where you can watching the tripe your lot have been serving up every week I suppose :D

I don't think we'll get through. It would be a monumental effort to beat Bayern and the kind of result that really needs everything to go your way for it to happen. Then not only do we need all of that, but we need Villereal to hold a far superior team in Napoli that given there efforts so far you would just never bet on them doing.

If either United or Chelsea don't get out of there groups that will be beyond embarrassing to be quite honest, but I think both will pull it out of the bag at the last hurdle. Chelsea and United to progress, us unfortunately to drop down to Europa :(

True, but they're still a world class team and would be good to see them go against Barca or RM and see how they do.

They should win the Europa league if they get knocked out of the CL.

Don't get me wrong, I wont be cheering for them or be on the edge of my seat for them to go through. Just think the comp would be more exciting see them go through because they have a lot of good players.

Must be eating you away that while you're scoring 3 or more in most games you're still only 5 points ahead of a team that's playing crap.... would City be in the same position if roles were reversed? I somewhat doubt it ;)

Hahaha tenuous. Yeah, I bet he's really up late every night worrying about how his team are clear at the top of the league for the first time in decades.

lol :p Dramatic much? Why do football fans insist on judging players by such ridiculous and unfair moral standards? If offered the chance to do the same job you're doing but for crazy money, plus the chance to actually be successful, who among the screaming louts who chant abuse at each game would turn this down?
People should remember that unless you have a squad full of home grown players, all of your heroes who you love so much have themselves left another, often smaller club for the better deal your club offered.
People need to grow up and enjoy the game for what it is.

Not really what I was eluding to is it? I would think his almost weekly posts about how we're only grinding out results and how poorly we're playing is a testament to his frustration that they're only 5 points ahead of us

tbf though he's not the only one, it seems it's irking quite a few on here :D

no doubt that there is a shift in how great the English teams are in Champions League.
Spanish, German and Italian teams have been better for the last 2 years.

Vidic is still banned isnt he? So its likely to be Rio and Jones in the middle (Im not sure SAF will have forgiven Evans for the CP game yet lol) and Smalling at RB.

Personally think Benfica will slaughter the Galati easily, but after a lot of nailbiting Utd will get enough away to Basle for 2nd in the group (but even if Utd win it wont be easy by any means)

Really not sure about City's group as Bayern could well play their kids etc so as not to risk any major players in what for them is a dead rubber (on the other hand, it would be good for them to not risk having to see City again in the latter stages....)
