G5ive

looks encouraging

weve had a lot of apple build cases lately havent we :)

Lets sub this one as well :D

Sexy case man :) looks like this is gonna be good.

I'm gutted I wasn't able to grab the spare G5 case we had at work before the manager decided to send it away for 'recycling'..

Hopefully I'll show you something a little different to the builds you've seen before. Here's a render of how things should look when complete.

Dis Gun Be gud!

Another G5 build in a space of a month, looking brill!

I built my rig in a G5 case in December, I didn't log any of it though. Now that I'm improving some things and upgrading some things I thought I'd share my work.

Just got an order delivered from OCUK and my tubing's in 2 pieces. I hope I don't need a run of more than a meter, it's likely some of my tube's going to be unusable though. :(

If you need a run of more than a meter than this will be the biggest G5 known to man lol

I love paralell loops like this, nice and clean. I have to say that seeing these great G5 mods makes me want to have ago. If I did it would be very similar to this I think. Will sit back and see how you tackle it. Are you using the existing from ports? Looking great so far.

I'll be using the power button, power LED and USB from the front panel. I haven't used firewire for about 6 years and don't plan on using it any time soon. As for audio I'll have my speakers hooked up to a sound card and my headset plugged into onboard audio so I don't need the extra port.

Looks an interesting loop.

Subbed

Yeah nice and clean

Parallel loops are so cool.

I'm glad you guys like it. You can probably tell by my choice in cases that aesthetics are quite high up on my list of priorities with this build. I'm more than happy to potentially sacrifice a degree or two in order to keep the visible tubing down and to keep the build looking as clean as possible.

Having said that, a quick test on an open bench (without reapplying thermal paste from my previous build) the temperatures have been nothing to worry about: 28-30°C on the CPU and GPUs at idle. GPU temps stay under 50°C under load while 2 cores of the CPU stay between 55-60°C under IBT load and the other 2 cores peak at 60-65°C.

Prodesktop has obviously moved forward a lot since i got my license for 2000i2.
Always liked the G5 case, very smart looking. Only thing i have ever had access to was an acrylic G4 case.

That's the version I'm using, had it since 2004 and still use it because of how simple it is.

There's plenty of old G5s out there if you look in the right place, they're not too expensive either.

Lol, Ive used the old, old prodesktop V8, that was frustrating as hell!

I can't say the newer version is less frustrating, but it does the job.

It's been a busy weekend, which started off with this little guy..

Not much of an unboxing as I grabbed a B grade motherboard for £120, but here's a little teaser. I'm sure you know what's coming.
