Corsair H60 refurb, will it fit?

Hi.

I am building a second 'server' PC out of my spare parts. I have a a Coolermaster 335 case, i5 2300 CPU and Gigabyte H61 motherboard. Going to fit some basic Corsair 1333MHZ 4GB RAM and an old 250GB Samsung IDE drive.

It'll also have my old Geforce 430 graphics card for now.

Will a H60 fit though? There is no cutout at the back of the CPU in the case. Would I need to modify this myself with a jigsaw? Or... is it a case of unmounting the motherboard and fitting the bracket at the back, then refixing?

Here's a photo (still got to tidy cables):

I won't be overclocking.

As it's a server PC I'd like it to run as quiet as possible 24/7. At the price of £29.99 for the H60 I just thought it made sense.

Any advice?

Alex.

Call me mad but I am keen on seeing what these water coolers are like.

I already have the Thermalright Macho in my main rig. It's brilliant. I just fancied a change for a system that won't be getting stressed.

The Thermalright True Spirit does look very nice though. Is it easy to fit without a backing plate cutout on the case behind the CPU?

Anyone else?

The cutout at the back of the motherboard tray is to allow fitment of aftermarket coolers without removing the motherboard.

I'd also lean towards air coolers as well. Generally cheaper (an array of aluminium fins is cheap), generally quieter (much slower fan speed, no pump noise), have less things to go wrong (no pump) and are largely more efficient (larger cooler surface area) than single radiator sealed designs.

I have to wonder why there are refurbs. Are these units that have been returned with faults and Corsair have patched them up and shipped them back out. I wouldn't fancy one of those.

I still feel these sealed units are a bit of a gimmick. If you wish to water cool do it properly.

/\ /\ /\ Indeed. RMA returns or not, they are inferior to new coolers.. which are not as dependable as air anyway.. and only have a 90 day warranty... kinda that kinda says it all.

As for mounting the TS120 is easier than your Macho was to mount. Same mount as Macho.. unless you have one of the old original HR-02's with pressure adjustment base

I still haven't made a purchase :)

I really want to see what this water cooling is all about and even if it all goes wrong (leaks) it's a spare computer I had lying around.

I'll let you guys know when I've made my decision.

Cheers.

for your useage. why not consider one of the new Raijintek coolers?

they are pretty special and for the price, pretty unbeatable.

One of these?

Pre-order only at the moment. You know the H60 right, lol, well does it come with a fan as it doesn't say?

Sup, I ordered one of these and it came fully boxed with brand new plastic wrap, didn't even look used or show any sign of use. Comes with one corsair fan which is a 4pin cpu fan thingy as well as having a fresh layer of thermal paste

Works well and keeps my q8200 at 60c under load, and makes the inside of the case look much nicer

Got the H60 guys. I appreciate your advice honestly but I wanted to see what one of these was like. It looks brand new. Real easy to fit just had to fiddle with the PSU a bit so it would fit. Air is drawing into the case. Just waiting on RAM and optical drive and I'll test her. I have a side panel intake and a front panel intake/exhaust. Where should I fit the 120mm exhaust?

Fan slot on side panel and front that's it. Only a cheap case. If I add another fan where do I plug it into? I'm out of fan headers but I do have a molex to fan connector laying about. I'd also have to get another Corsair fan the same wouldn't I? Not sure...

Could I maybe put the fan in front of the radiator and push the air out? Like I said the CPU is never going to be really stressed.

I have my H60 Fan as an exhaust with 2 120mm arctic f12s as intakes and even with the heat produced from the mobo and gpu it still blows cool air out, I did have to cut a hole in the top of my case to add another fan. I did have a 8.5inch fan on the side but that wouldn't fit once the radiator was in :(
