Hi All

I have £2.5K+ to spend on a new gaming rig with 1440p Monitor included. I have my eye on the Dell UltraSharp U3014 30".

I am in 2 minds about what graphics cards to go for. If a single 290x or 780ti would be enough to keep above the 60fps mark at 1440p. Or I could go sli on 780's or even 2 x 290x's.

I have built 2 previous pcs before but would prefer to get overclockers to build it or use the system configurator as I don't want any hassle.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks

Sure you can't be tempted by a custom build? You won't get anything quite this epic:

Total : £3,009.79 (includes shipping : £27.55).

At 1600p the 290's extra VRAM should give it the edge over SLI 780s. I wouldn't go for a single card at that resolution.

If you definitely want it pre-built the Infinity Cube (SLI 780s) would be a good shout, but you wouldn't fit that monitor in your budget: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-391-OE&groupid=43&catid=2474

I've had a look on the configurator, but half of the components (including the 4770k) seem to be out of stock at the moment.

Hi Fulax thanks for your info.

Sorry I copied the wrong monitor name . It is the Dell UltraSharp U2713HM 27" that is £450 not the 30" beast.

Would the cube with 2x290x's swapped in for the 780's be worth while?

Thanks

Shame, it is an epic monitor :p :D

The 290X is, by common consent, not really worth the premium over the 290. I'd see if you can swap the 780s for two of those Sapphire 290s in my spec above.

agree with Fulax, 290x not really worth the extra cost for the increase in performance over the 290, definitley diminishing returns in performance/price with the 290x

Why game at 1080P and 120-144hz?

The main advantage of PC gaming is the increased resolution and graphical improvement over console.

i've had 1600p 1080p 1440p 1080p at 140hz asnd 120hz

if i wanted to upgrade my graphics every year id been on 1600p again. thats for sure.

currently use 2560x1080p at 60hz 21:9 is just so good

This system is built with the system configurator with the fans and cpu cooler added. Is this a viable option as I am looking at the same budget and haven't built a pc before?

Just a note: 2x £599 is not £999. You'd still be within the budget, just.
