In addition to its use of DirectX 11, Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth will be among the first wave of products optimized for the latest in AMD graphics technologies, including: the new Mantle graphics API, for enhanced graphics performance; AMD CrossFire™, for UltraHD resolutions and extreme image quality; and AMD Eyefinity, which allows for a panoramic gameplay experience on up to six different HD displays off of a single graphics card.

AMD has scored another win for their Mantle API, with upcoming title Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth to support it alongside DirectX 11. Previous Civilization titles, such as Civilization V, were reasonably CPU intensive, so the reduced CPU overhead and lower-level features of Mantle should help gamers run the game on entry-level hardware including AMD's own APUs.

Civ 5 which this could be based on has a nasty bug that makes it very difficult to play a game on a huge map when getting toward the end. I think what happens is you get a huge bottleneck and in the end tile improvements don't appear where they should, eventually the game won't even load. It will be interesting to see how Mantle deals with this.

It will be interesting to see how his pans out. If Mantle can improve CPU utilisation in an RTS game, imagine what happens when DX12 comes out??

It might good times ahead for RTS players.

Strange Kaap, as all I play is huge maps and never had issues.

I play huge maps and don't have problems :p

I can't wait for this, I always hoped they would release an expansion for civ 5 which let you expand off planet once you launch the space station!

Well the last time I ran Civ5 was when I had a SB Core i3. I have a Core i5 now,so maybe it will run better.

But with the Core i3 after 20 hours on a large world map, things started to chug a bit!! :p
