Have Samsung Hurt Their Sales

It will be a small effect, mainly in the enthusiast area. Normal users will completely oblivious to there even being a problem with the drives to be honest.

On 840 evo drives if your files are static i.e not being rewritten often your drive starts to loose performance. The older the file the more dramatic that becomes. Os drives have a lot of static files because windows doesnt change most of the files. Same with game installs. Drives are dropping from 500mb/s to 50mb/s. Access times go up etc etc. Its really not good! The problem is well documented on most tech sites and we have our own thread with plenty of screenshots of what happens.

I used to buy and install Crucial M4 SSDs.

Along came Samsung 830s, and I switched to them (based on price/spec/brand reputation).

The 840s also seemed superior to what Crucial were offering.

I now know that there are issues with the 840 and 840 Evos. So far Samsung have failed to recognise any problem with the 840 and have failed to fix the 840 Evo.

I'm now buying Crucial SSDs (MX100) again. It's an even easier choice, now that the MX100 is generally cheaper than the 840 (and 850) Evo.

Samsung are a huge company, they will swallow this sales blip no sweat

Their HDDs were and still are fantastic as are their 840 pro ssd's,crucial got wise and launched a cracking drive for less money the mx100 range,Samsung need to match this drive currently the 840 evo is flawed and overpriced
