The Asus PG279Q Gaming display has a maximum supported resolution of 2560×1440, also referred to as WQHD resolution. For a majority of gamers, this particular resolution is the most preferred one because of the faster GPUs you can get nowadays. They aren’t powerful enough (at least one of them) to be sufficient for 4K gaming at high refresh rates, so 1440p at 144Hz will have to do. Refresh rate means a lot more than resolution for most gamers anyways, so that is not a problem. And to top it off, this monitor is capable of reaching a maximum refresh rate of 165Hz when G-SYNC is enabled. (Only supported on GTX 960 and higher)!!

Love the tiny bezels on these, but I'm curious as to the point of a 165Hz screen that says it doesn't support 3D... what's it for, if not that? :S

Don't be fooled by those promotion pics, the bezels are not that small.

Google search any of the LG/Dell 34"/29" monitors and the bezel in real life is larger i.e. google search the 29um65 and here is what the bezel is actually like:

Although it is still a lot thinner than most other monitors and the lack of the actual plastic chassis is great, unfortunately just not as good as we are led to believe....
 
Perseonally I think the new thickness of the bezel of the newer monitors (2015 Dells, the LG-based ultrawides) looks great, no bezel IMO look a bit odd! Of course it's not ideal for dual monitor setups, however it's an improvement at least.

As for these Asus monitors, the price of the PG279Q is high, the PG27AQ seems fairly attractive, however the price of the PG348Q is utter madness. Like the design aside from the bottom part of the "stem" for the stand. Will be interesting to see if that claimed 100Hz is native or not.

It certainly isn't. This will be the same as the X34, utilising the same 60Hz native IPS panel that was in the LG/Dell curved monitors, just overclocked to 75Hz, and then up to 100Hz with the use of G-Sync... which if anything like the Acer has no guarantee of reaching that speed, despite being sold and advertised as such... which will prove interesting if and when people find their monitors fail to achieve that figure, or worse still suffer failures after 6 months of running it at a constant 100Hz. The wording in Acer's manual is certainly cause for concern, stating that overclocking above the panel specifications is at the end user's risk... which strikes me as a stupid thing to say when they've advertised the monitor as being overclocked to 100Hz. :confused: Will be very interesting to see how Asus address this with the PG348Q.
 
How is the PG279Q 165hz? I read that the limit on DP1.2 is 145hz at 1440p 32bit color, could be wrong though IDK.
 
PG348Q £250 more then the X34? For slightly better aesthetics and an extra years warranty?

For that money I would have hoped they could have thrown in a 2nd G-Sync module for redundancy! ;)

Still better to have the option....

My thoughts really. I'm in two minds whether to cancel my pre-order for the XR341CKA and just go for an XB270HU instead (sure, it's still a problematic monitor but frankly they all seem to be). At this point I've been using my laptop only for around 2 months, so any delay honestly doesn't make a huge difference at this point.

it's within Displayport 1.2 bandwidth specs, i've already confirmed that with Asus. will get something written up explaining how it's calculated
 
Argh i saw the pre order yesterday and thought it said 13/10 which is 1 month, its actually november which is 2 months, that will make it exactly 12 months since I built this PC and have been waiting for a monitor! Hopefully price will go down to around £700 instead of £750.
 
The thing is, Overclockers are not telling you something, that is they get 1 month priority on these three RoG monitors, so you have to wait another month after they release to buy it from another retailer, so that is why it is more expensive
