CPU De-lid Tool

Not sure which thread is being used, posted this in the other thread.

Video didn't work for me but just searched on Youtube and found it. Absolutely brilliant idea. So simple and safe compared to the razor blade or hammer and vice method.

Now that is a simple but extremely effective tool. How come nobody thought of that before!! I bet it's going to cost quite a bit.

If I had one of them when I did my 4670k I would have had a few less grey hairs now. :D:D:D

yet you are not banging something IN the pcb of the cpu. It's a very handy tool, small and easy to use. If next version of i7's won't be soldered, i'm getting me one of these !

Can see delidded CPU's being a lot more common now, if I got one I wouldn't mind sending it to others to use as long as they had decent trust and I know I would get it back. Saves everyone spending £50 or whatever it's going to be for something you'll use for a few seconds every few years.

That would only be an issue with soldered IHS?

That is an awesome tool. Great idea. I would definitely do it if that was available!!

Safer de-lidding, coming soon to OcUK?

Came across this thread on HWBOT about a safer way to delid your CPU. We've all done in before and was risky with a Stanley knife, or the quick hammer technique which most I assume haven't tried since incorrectly securing said CPU and wrongly placed blow equals paperweight :p

This appears to weigh the odds in your favour and you can glue the heatsink back on. It's called the Delid Die Mate. Parent site will stock them and surely OcUK will too?

The tool is pretty simple and is based on the vice method. However, CPU and heatspreader are secured inside the tool and can't move. So no risk to damage any part of the CPU

The whole delidding process takes about 1 minute with the tool. In addition you can also glue the IHS back on with the Delid Die Mate. So should be pretty handy for Skylake benchers.

It's also compatible to Ivy Bridge, Haswell and Devils Canyon. No clue about Broadwell because I have no CPU here to test. It's always hard to explain how things work in a post so I uploaded a short video on my youtube channel. You can skip to 1:40 if you don't want to listen to my bla bla

The video isnt working for me, seems like a good idea for benchmarkers since they get through a lot of CPUs.

Might buy one of these to delid my 4770k, what do people clean the paste out with and what thermal paste is then recommended in its place? None of that liquid metal stuff tho haha

Erm he said the "S" on the tool stands for skylake for skylake CPU's i was under the assumption this would work for all the CPUs down to sandy bridge?? (obviously not talking about extreme chips they usually are soldered)

Why list this in the video description...

der8auer Delid Die Mate - Advanced CPU Delidding (Skylake, Haswell, DC, Ivy Bridge)

I got the impression you just attach a different bit for the other CPU types presumably with a different letter.
