With AMD announcing software support for HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 active adapters with its Radeon Software Crimson Edition, various AMD AIB partners could jump in with such adapters. Club 3D, which has been making dongles, converters, and adapters, besides AMD Radeon graphics cards, announced its entry. The company announced two active adapters - standard DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0, and mini-DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0. Both support 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels), with 60 Hz refresh rate display mode. The company didn't announce pricing.

Warning this will be a possible controversial post. it is not meant to incite a riot, just raise the point so it can be discussed sensibly.

Does this mean that the adapters have indeed been ready for ages but we have been waiting on AMD to sort out the software support for them?

It does sound like they've been keeping them back until AMDs Crimson drivers were released.

they were demoed at CES in January, with something as simple as an adaptor there isn't any particular reason they've taken nearly a year to come to market (I say that, and these aren't even on the shelves yet)

it is an active adaptor, so the GPU should be just sat there spitting out a DP signal and the adaptor adapts it to HDMI, I can't really even see what a driver update would be needed for :/

Remember some of the red team members been using 60Hz HDMI 2.0 for aaaaages now, pretty poor show imho as 'paying' customers have been screaming out for them.

I doubt very much there is hardly any users who bought AMD cards to use with HDMI 2.0 60Hz and were waiting on a 3rd party Adapter.
If HDMI 2.0 60Hz is what a user needs at the time of buying then you buy a product that has it if there are no Adapter available at the time.

There is more likely many users waiting on the adapter before buying an AMD card for HDMI 2.0 60Hz.

Should have put a 'few' in front of paying as ive seen actual disappointed users not happy about the time frame they are waiting for it.

Yes, agree you should have looked elsewhere, but AMD has been plugging the adapter since don't know when.

4K large panel TV pricing has fell through the floor, could actually be more in the wild than 4K desktop gamers now, that's a huge market lost to Nvidia.

And if they don't have a clue that their gaming@30hz and it looks ****, that's another customer lost to Nvidia.

I'm not advocating the 'it doesn't have 2.0 support crowd, I'm being more critical on the lines of its been sitting in the drawer for who knows how long.

I posted a vid of it getting shown off a few weeks back, users wanted info on availability and iirc, they were ignored.

AMD have their reasons why they didn't bring the adapter to market instead of leaving it to partners, it doesn't look good when trying to improve the Radeon image, it's a hard enough task as it is, considering your top end gpu is slower and more expensive than the competition.

I remember when AMD were a no brainer for faster/higher spec/ superior longevity-I bought those ones.

Seeing as no one has a clue for the possible delay how can someone claim that the delay was unreasonable or not, just because you have seen a red team member using it that does not mean that there was no issues.

Any delay by nature is unreasonable as it's something no one wants, and there shouldn't have been any issues in the first place, for reasons stated above.

Brand image is king and that's why AMD/Nvidia are where they are.:)

What a load of codswallop.
Not granting what someone wants or right away does not make a delay unreasonable by nature.

I was reading a while back posts by Peter Nixeus about the amount of non VESA compliant Adapters, Cables, EDID and firmware in display scalers being used and that they have had to tweak the firmware to be complaint and that it should not be down to AMD or NV to tweak there drivers to get around the issues but they do.
.
This is another one i found as i cant spend all night finding the exact post by him.

Yes - it is my job here to validate as many cables and legacy graphics cards to make sure what works and not work with our monitors. Also to find potential issues caused by hardware and accessories due to compliance or compatibility issues so my customer service team can be better trained and knowledgeable.

Those are the ONLY DP cables I recommend in case a customer needs one faster than we can send a replacement. And you are correct when a VESA certified DP cable does not solve the issue - then it is the monitor firmware (using Non-Compliant VESA EDID) or monitor hardware issue or graphics card bios.

For Clarification: If you are using a REAL VESA Certified DisplayPort cable and still getting Wake from Sleep issues from particular monitors - then it involves the EDID of the monitor not being VESA compliant and rarely the graphics card vendor. From product development and valdiation tests, I found some evidence why the monitor brand have a non-VESA compliant EDID (or the monitor brand may not be aware of it) - but can't say because it may break the internet or I get attacked. :heyyou:
