I've finally given in, I reckon if I have a camera I won't get into as many arguments with plebs in cars.
This morning a car pulled straight out of a side street forcing me to brake hard and we're facing each other. Even though his wife was shouting at him for nearly hurting me he wouldn't have none. Anyway, a passer by said 'get one of those cameras mate and he wouldn't argue' and I've actually heard this said a few times.
I don't want to spend too much, I don't want a big square thing on top of my head so what have you got?

Thanks

How much is too much?

I've had a Contour Roam 3 which I liked before I got a GoPro - the "slide button" recording was great, esp with gloved hands. Friend has a Garmin Virb which seems to put out decent quality clips. Both can be had for around £100.

Garmin Virb unfortunately is way too heavy for a helmet cam (I tried to get on with it for a while but it wasn't pleasant). I've heard good things about the Contour though.

I've also ridden with a Mobius as a helmet cam and it is light enough. The quality is only just about good enough though and these days there must be better cameras with a similar price/weight.

I haven't seen the iON Cool before but it could be good.

Whatever you consider be sure to check out Techmoan as the guy really knows his stuff:

I've used a Contour Roam 2 on my motorbike helmet, it's a good camera but it seems Contour have dropped support of their roam cameras as the mounts are almost impossible to find if you need to buy spares.

Here you go if you want to have a laugh at my voice, it gets higher when I'm angry :D He was just behind me on the approach to the roundabout so I was there first and then he tried to left hook me. The voice you hear saying "I saw that" was one of about 10 hospital staff. He did actually make contact with me because he opened up a cut on my knee and bent my mirror back.
What goes through some motorists heads that they have zero respect fopr a cyclist?

Personally I would take the lane to stop a car coming up next to you there, check over my shoulder to see what the car was doing or looked like it was going to do.

The way you stay left & hug the left cycle lane when you get to the roundabout does give the impression you are going to turn.

Stay safe everyone :)

However for over four years that is exactly the route I have taken. 1000s of other cars have worked out every night what I'm doing except for this one driver. I wouldn't have minded if he'd offered up some excuse but he was like a frightened rabbit.
I wish I had it helmet mounted so you could see exactly where I was to where he was and I did turn round to see where he was. I also have a mirror which I check about every 5 seconds so can see when some idiot comes up my right and starts indicating left. I got off from the roundabout way before him so he would have to put his foot down to left hook. I was very nearly near the middle bollard before he hit me so I have no idea what was going through his head. There were about 6 witnesses on that left corner with a couple of cyclists and you hear one shout out "I saw that". Like I say, first idiot in over four years.

Funnily enough since that incident I started to take control of the lane and position myself half way in it and I now get drivers beeping at me for the first time. I've even had two cars narrowly missing me going up the inside of me to turn left.

Yup, taking primary will often get drivers annoyed but it's definitely safer in general (I haven't watched your video so I'm not talking about that incident specifically).

I'm sure I irritate drivers a lot but I feel a lot safer knowing that there's definitely isn't enough space for them to squeeze past or any doubt about what I intend to do.

No harm done and maybe they will be a bit more cautious in future.

I don't mind people making a mistake if they own up, just a wave or a sorry is enough.

Don't get a Drift, they end up being a faff to turn on and off (hold it down till it turns on, wait, then press record - a pain if you have your helmet and gloves on already). The Contour Roam 3 has a nice big slider on the top with you push forwards and it'll start recording immediately.

I have the Drift Ghost HD on my motorbike helmet and it's a pain to use day to day. Better video quality compare to the Roam 2, no doubt, but the Roam 2 beats it for convenience and ease of use. I presume the Roam 3 has better video quality as well.

This is my black ice one.
It's a good job I was going really slow.

"Not again" :D

Not one problem except for remembering to turn it on before I set off and I have very thick Sealskinz winter gloves. I tried that Contour in Currys, did not like.

The one time I forgot to turn it on was the second day and it would have made a really funny film.
A car pulled out on me from the left and aimed straight at me forcing me to brake hard and he stopped. He got out screaming his head off and a couple of pedestrians had a right go at him but he told them to FO. he kept on and then asked me what I'd got to say so I just pointed at my new Drift and said 'All the evidence is there mate. You can either apologise or look for your car number on You Tube tonight" and he got straight back in his car. It was only then I noticed I hadn't turned it on :D
