I built my own system a few years ago now and have a little bit of money this month to do some upgrading. The graphics card has caused me a few issues so I'm gravitating toward swapping that, apart from that I'm just after some general advice on what else is worth doing.

Currently have a i5-2500k and its time for an upgrade.
My PC has lasted me 8 years and still does a decent job, but some new sandbox games that I like to play struggle.

Currently have an i3-8100 with a gtx 1060 6gb, 16gb ddr4
Is it a good idea to upgrade to an i5-8400 for about £200? Or would it be better to just put the money towards a new gpu, 1070 probably.
I mainly game and use vr, and after getting a 2nd monitor and attempting to run multiple programs...

Been awhile since I posted, but I felt being more patient with deciding what to do next with my current computer rig was important.

had a moment of madness and considered buying a 9900k to replace my 8600k,
would I see any improvement?? only really play pubg.
reason I considered it, I could leave it basically stock in the bios and a have the same speeds without the worry of the OC stability/lifespan/temp
so simplify this, I got a new AIO cooler and I need to clean off my old compound from my CPU, I don't have any rubbing alcohol or anything like this. The nail polish remover I have is acetone free, can I use this. I know it's not ideal but would it do the job?
I would prefer to get it done...

The unfortunate time has finally come to update my computer internals, it's fought one hell of a battle for the last 4 years, overcoming the demands of modern games, but finally, my processor loads seem to be so high I'm loosing the will to live with it, RIP i5 4690k!
So anyway...

I'm currently running an older setup, and still using a LGA 1150 cpu and motherboard with ddr3 ram. After having many issues with the PC of late, I'm fed up of the socket and want to upgrade to some newer and higher specs. I currently have an old, low spec i5 with a GTX 960.
Can anyone...
Long story short my setup has lasted me a while but I'd like to optimize GTA5s performance on the highest settings as currently I get far too much stuttering/dips in FPS when maxing out the in-game settings.

Memory: 16GB DDR4 (1050MHz DRAM Freq)

Looking for some advice. I bought a cheap small form factor PC for gaming about a year ago to play stuff like Hearts of Iron. The trouble is my tastes are changing and Doom and the new call of Cthulu game look tempting.

I am really rather clueless when it comes down to pcs, I've always bought a pre made system in the past however the cpu in this one is really looking to let me down, I'm still happy with all the other parts so don't want to dish out another £1000 odd pound for a full system, I have no idea what...
