Looks too hardcore for me, plus you have to pay monthly so thats instantly a no go.

Whos majang and what games has he made before?

He's the creator of Minecraft and has done a great deal to re-invigorate the game coder scene with things like making 24hr coding parties cool again, emphasising on gameplay over graphics, things like that.

If it's ANYTHING like Elite, but online, and multiplayer, and great gameplay over graphics, then this is a winner even if it's a tenner a month.

Tbh Notch got lucky in a sense with minecraft, I'm sure anything else he creates won't be as good or good at all.

So in essence we are looking at an indie MMO in Space. Got to say the premise does sound somewhat interesting.

I've heard a lot of people say something similar to this, but i don't see why. Sure, Minecraft isn't the best optimized game out there. But then Java isn't the best optimized language by far.

He's a decent programmer and a good guy, why wouldn't he be able to make something people would enjoy? I mean, Catacomb Snatch could have been a great little game if it actually worked ;)

Is minecraft not an indie game?

What?

yeah, i must admit, it doesnt sound too great to me either

;)

I very much agree. Notch got very 'lucky', I think if you look at Minecraft's development it tells you quite a lot about Notch, if only he put as much effort in to Minecraft as he did Twitter :p

Looks interesting but I can't say I have much faith in Notch or Mojang to make it decent.

From what I understand there will only be a monthly fee for the "multiverse". Guess that's OK, but it had better not be very much. I'm not paying MMO level fees for it.

Edit: Actually, I wonder why the ability to have user hosted multiverses doesn't exist?

Pretty much this Perma, he seems to have gotten a bit to big for his shoes these days, he is a mediocre programmer and if minecraft actually had someone with more creativity and ideas behind it it probably had the chance to be a lot better(also didn't he promise much more for release?).
Also the way he handled the whole yogscast thing is hilarious.

Granted he is really nice donating to indie games but as for the guys credentials of making great games I doubt it severely.

He's lazy in terms of development. Minecraft is better now that Jeb is in charge and updating it.

I don't want to comment on this too much, but I find all the 'love' for Notch a little cringe worthy and funny. Did he not win an award for services to the industry or something?

I lost huge respect for him with the Yogscast incident, hilarious and just pathetic from someone of his stature.
