1.4K desktop build (tower no perennials)

As above I'm considering a desktop build for around 1.4K

I have a 32" AOC monitor, keyboard and mouse so I literally only need the tower, I need an OS drive but no storage as have plenty of those. OS wise I've got an M2 SSD (256GB Non NVME) and a 7200RPM 2.5" as well as a collections of HDD's I'd like to use, so no storage needed)

AMD or Intel? I'm not sure really.
Res - this will be connected to my 4K TV and 1440P monitor, so 1440P is a minimum.
Cooling - I'm not sure if liquid or standard air, overclocking would be planned. I'd like a quiet running PC ideally.
Nvidia or AMD? Again, really not sure on this one.
Upgradability - I want something that I can be sure is future proofed where I can upgrade later on, I don't want something that is going to end up obsolete about 5 months down the line meaning new RAM/Mobo etc..

Why am I considering desktop? I thought I'd answer this as I've been pretty active in the laptop forums, looking at getting a cool running laptop that is of desktop performance is a futile effort unless I'm spending 2.3K, so rather than get a new laptop, I might aswell keep my current one and simply get a desktop.

@willhub

whats your AOC 32" model number? guessing its 75hz IPS Freeysnc ?

at 4k and 1440p your not bound to much to CPU speeds/

Ryzen 3000 launches July as well as intel rolling out 10 core i think q4 ...

rtx 2080 would allow you to drive 4k, not as good at £1k 2080ti but still well enough! and over 70fps at 1440p on high settings !

you can get 2700x for same price as 2700 listed here if you look around..

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,492.03 (includes shipping: £14.10)

quiet case and cooler ( on pre-order), board with Wifi and Gigabte 4 yr UK RMA/Warranty/CS, 10 yr warranty on PSU

flip side, again 2600x for ryzen 2600 prices else where

ODE
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,503.03 (includes shipping: £14.10)
x470 flagship board which will allow you to slap in 16 core ryzen 400 in 2-4 years time down the line. Unlike MSI, Gigabyte board is UK RMA like its card and in a different league

So are both of those future proof and I'll be able to slap newer CPU's unlike intel who may change sockets like underwear?

And yeah it's 75Hz Freesync, terrible ghosting but not bothered really.

Even a 1st gen B350 mobo will take the new cpu's, it's AMD's promise not to change sockets until after 2020.

The B450 boards can't do SLI, have 4 fewer USB 3.1 gen 1 ports, 2 fewer Sata 3.0, 2 fewer pci-e gen 2 lanes and that's about it. You can read about the differences here.

Someone is selling a RTX2080Ti with 5GHz 8700K for 1700 that seems a good deal no?
£1700?

Depends on brand/model of components. You could get a quality bespoke self build with that budget.

But if the component list is qualty and pre-built coupled with decent guarantee it certainly ticks a lot of boxes and good value.

1700 would struggle for me to build it with a 2080Ti and a 2700X wouldn't it?

CPU - Intel - Core i7 8700K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor safely overclocked and running very cool at 5GHz

CPU Cooler - Corsair - H150i PRO Liquid Water Cooled

Motherboard - Asus - ROG MAXIMUS X HERO (WI-FI AC) ATX LGA1151

Memory - G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600

Storage - Samsung - 970 Evo 500 GB M.2 -2280 Solid State Drive ssd

Video Card Palit - GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB GamingPro OC Video Card
(images display an inno3D 2080 Ti x3 oc card. I’m happy to switch to whichever you’d prefer.) or will negotiate not including the gpu / selling a gpu separately.

Case - Corsair - Crystal 570X RGB Mirror Black ATX Mid Tower

Power Supply Corsair - RMx 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Fan Controller - Corsair - Commander Pro

Case Fans - x3 Corsair - LL120 RGB LED 43.25 CFM 120mm fans

Radiator push Fans - x3 Corsair - LL120 RGB LED 43.25 CFM 120mm fans

Radiator pull Fans - x3 Corsair - 120mm radiator Fans

RGB controller - Corsair - Lighting Node PRO

Windows 10 Pro

That's specs

that's definitely a good spec for the money!
although that being said, buying a 2080ti without warranty is a HUGE gamble.
(I wouldn't buy one without a 5 year warranty; 4 at the very least)

No, amd leaving it up to vendors to support Zen2 via bios.... This is due to poor VRM to handle Zen2 higher cores.
Very easy to overload them and throttles a treat .

THIS IS SO TEMPTING MY MIND IS LITERALLY TEARING IN HALF!!!111

Good value... Just watch the warranty

I'll have fun posting in the benchmark threads lol. He said he got it to 5.2GHz stable but temps were in the high 80s and he didn't like that but sounds ok to me. He's swapping out the 3600MHz 16gb ram for 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3000MHz.

1600 without the Evo 970.
