i going hopefully into the marines mate, and so had to do something very simular.
for marines it was under 10 mins for the 1.5 mile run, i managed to get it on 9 mins though treadmill wouldnt go any faster lol.
i am not a runner and i mean this, i suck at it.
but it very simple: run..run...run..more running....keep runnning...keep it up.
there ISNT no special training or special ways to run, and i been told this by guys in force just run, run run you wil improve.
i had injury and maybe theres a lesson here, when you runnning make sure you look , sounds silly but i know when you running hard you tend to go off into another little place and tend not to look where your going/placing your feet, so carfull of pot holes
i suggest like others said dont aim for 1.5 miles, i found when i had PJFT coming up i did this:
start doing 1.5 mile runs but aim to do 2 mile runs in 14 mins or less, this 100% possible and can be done within 2-4 months easy. and that only running 2-3 times a week.
then add some 1.5 mile sprints, ie run 1 mile normal pace ie 7 min mile there abouts then last 0.5 mile try really go for it aiming for 6 min or less pace, balls out.
but the main goal you need is 3-5 mile runs, trust me i failed my run first time for the 3 miler(this isnt PJFT but the marines PRMC) it key that you get 3 miler time to around about 21:30mins, this is KEY..
then once you got 3 miler to around 21:30 or 22:00 then add some 5 mile runs in once a week,
try this, as my marine booklet said:
3x 35 min run(aim for 7mini mile pace) a week
1x 7-9 mile run( slow pace 8+min mile) a week.
rest 1/2 days a week try fit a rest after a run/hard workout.
fill any free days with, swimming or cycle /sports.
also GET A GOOD PAIR OF TRAINING SHOES.. gl, you will pass the army mate it ant super hard from what i hear
**edit** forgot to say: do a 5-10 min warmup before running or you will get shin splints or injury, same goes for warmdown, 10 mins MIN, stretch each muscle group, properly or you will suffer the day after.
