1.5 mile run time ?

i going hopefully into the marines mate, and so had to do something very simular.

for marines it was under 10 mins for the 1.5 mile run, i managed to get it on 9 mins though treadmill wouldnt go any faster lol.

i am not a runner and i mean this, i suck at it.

but it very simple: run..run...run..more running....keep runnning...keep it up.

there ISNT no special training or special ways to run, and i been told this by guys in force just run, run run you wil improve.

i had injury and maybe theres a lesson here, when you runnning make sure you look , sounds silly but i know when you running hard you tend to go off into another little place and tend not to look where your going/placing your feet, so carfull of pot holes:)

i suggest like others said dont aim for 1.5 miles, i found when i had PJFT coming up i did this:

start doing 1.5 mile runs but aim to do 2 mile runs in 14 mins or less, this 100% possible and can be done within 2-4 months easy. and that only running 2-3 times a week.

then add some 1.5 mile sprints, ie run 1 mile normal pace ie 7 min mile there abouts then last 0.5 mile try really go for it aiming for 6 min or less pace, balls out.

but the main goal you need is 3-5 mile runs, trust me i failed my run first time for the 3 miler(this isnt PJFT but the marines PRMC) it key that you get 3 miler time to around about 21:30mins, this is KEY..

then once you got 3 miler to around 21:30 or 22:00 then add some 5 mile runs in once a week,

try this, as my marine booklet said:

3x 35 min run(aim for 7mini mile pace) a week
1x 7-9 mile run( slow pace 8+min mile) a week.

rest 1/2 days a week try fit a rest after a run/hard workout.

fill any free days with, swimming or cycle /sports.

also GET A GOOD PAIR OF TRAINING SHOES.. gl, you will pass the army mate it ant super hard from what i hear:)

**edit** forgot to say: do a 5-10 min warmup before running or you will get shin splints or injury, same goes for warmdown, 10 mins MIN, stretch each muscle group, properly or you will suffer the day after.

some of you are wrong,

Dont run just 1.5miles, if you go to the interview and you say yeh you run 1.5miles in this time, he will fail you, you need to do a 800m warmup 0.5mile, before you do the 1.5mile run, this consists of 2minutes running, 2 minutes walking, 2 minutes running, then straight away do your 1.5mile run, and THAT is your proper 1.5mile time, if you do not do your warmup, you can add well over 1 minute onto your time.

i have selection in 4 weeks time. passed both of my interviews.

and

Level 1
Run time 12.45
Infantry
Pioneers

Level 2
Run time 13.15
Royal Artillery
Royal Armoured Corps
Royal Engineers
Household Cavalry

Level 3
Run time 14.00
All other Arms and Corps

is not entirely true, as he will find out if he goes in and says "Well on the internet it says...." like i did

i went in with a run time of 11minutes, and he said that didnt impress him and if i went to selection on that day with that time i would have failed, and i was put on a 2 week trial to improve my run time, which i passed.

when i did my PJFT there was a army dude and he said he needed 12.50mins to pass, though i beleive you will need 10:30 for infi in the army to pass the treadmill /run test.

i not 100% sure on this as i said i doing the royal marines tests and not the army and such the marines and army tests quite a lot differant, one being the marines is much harder:)

got my pjft in a couple of weeks not looking forward to it! i can run fine outside but on that treadmill its horrible. will get 10:30 at least for 2nd half lol tho.

treadmill is only for the marines test.

incorrect it for all arms forces, you have to do a pre-joining test to see how your basic fitness is, on tredmill at a gym.

then depending on the force you then do a proper fitness test ie the PRMC or POC which is very much harder and useally involves 1-3+days of PT.

have they changed it then? do you now have to do 3 miles on the tredmill then?

if so is it like the PRMC, ie, 12:30 first half then 10:30 second?

i failed my first 3 miler sinse i got terrible cramp and screwed my leg up during that first half, to slow--.-- couldnt stretch out on 12:30

tell us how it goes though, and what training programme you doing at the moment, i can give you some tips and advise for the PRMC....it is HAAARD......the gym i found easyer, got 75 press ups , :)

yeah they make you do 1.5 miles under 12;30 then a further 1.5 best effort on tread now. Also forcing us (at manchester afco at least) to attend some mini prmc one day thing, which isn't pass or fail but meant to give you better insight into prmc itself (rather just go straight prmc lol)

to be honest its not really sunk in how quick application is going and i'm only really starting to train all out now.. i had an "Ok" level of fitness for running beforehand but i'm just starting to run regualary sort of 3miles at a good pace 3 times a week going try push that up to like 5 though with some sprints before prmc. (im a good sprinter to be fair its just long distance that kills me)

I have been beasted in the ta before but sure prmc will properly kill me lol.

pushup wise...no where near 75 haha. Did they let you lie down in the 2 minutes of pressups? or do you have to be constantly elevated sort of an inch off the ground sort of in a continous press up postion. At the moment usually do around 30 spend 20 seconds lieing there like some dead animal then do another 20 or so. I'm not to weak just can't do pressups or situps for some reason.....hopefully they will rise as well through practice, plenty of time before prmc itself.

lol, the prmc is HARD, and should not be under estimated mate, and yes i know the appl goes fast if your a fit person, i know--.--

you need to do this before each 3 mile or run as this is what happeneds on prmc.

have a warm up: this involes a few little sprints, ie sprint to car and back ect, no more than 50 mtrs ect.

then stand still and do a standing sprint for 15 secs about 3 or 4 times, then stretching , moving that is not static we did.

you do the first 12:30 in a group, if you tall like me..back of the line.. be sure to try get on the side of the pack as being in middle you get pressed between two blokes:eek:.

you then stop half way after the 1.5 mile, and have about 1-2 mins "rest"(personally i hated this stop all the blood goes down hill..) after rest they say "ready yourself, full effort," and off you go.

press up wise, no you cannot stop during it, it 2 mins ful effort on press-ups, arms locked in, and going down to a fist level above floor,(the green book has more detailed info in it)

bassically heres how the day useally goes:not inclu the non fitness stuff.

d1: 3 mile run:
afternoon: bleep test :aim for 13, reality is you get to 9 and you pretty tired, i got 11, but some did get 13.

straight after bleed test you get ready for press-ups/sit=ups in pairs.

after press-ups other guy does his(this your break/rest, counting his)

then sit-ups i got 65 :( try aim for 80, and make sure elbows touch knees.

then you split into colour groups and it pull up time, you do pull ups with 3 per bar, "bend, stretch" is the command given to rise then fall. chin must go over bar, i managed 7 though i sliped off, make sure you dry your hands before, i didnt.

after this warm down then that day 1. you will also know if you passed your run, if you fail they say carry on with course to get a feel for it.

d2 : (the fun begins)
death slide....... i wont spoil it :D

then it bottom field, hard to remember what happened exactly you are ****ed thoughout it.

roughly, they go though each obstical and show you how its done you then do it then move onto next.(thoughout this you doing market time, this is knees up elbows in standing on spot running)

once you done this and warmed up it time for the timed run, need under 5 mins to pass, aim for 3:30, 1 foot take off 2 foot landing KEY,, or beasting.

then afer this is determination test, this hardest part of course NO ****.

it pure hellish 20-30 min of pure beasting, this inclus: running, sprints, press-ups sit-ups,burpies, and other fun stuff(chiken walking, crab walking, crawling, ect)

example of this is this:

run to 6 foot wall and back(sprinting) 10-pressups, 10 situps, 10 burpies.

repeat this for 30 mins and you get my drift. also at the end is a firemans carry for about 50 mtrs.

d3: more gym stuff, teamwork exercise, hard to explain, just srvive it and give a good effort and you get good marks

tbh, if you can do 3 miler well/you know if you can do 3 miler good enough it just a feeling you get, and can keep going you can pass.

give it 100% and they will see this, dont back chat or try be a big man or you will have a hard time.

good luck, any more detailed info just ask

i busted my angle doing a 3 miler run, i was hoping for mid april but now it looks like later, maybe may june god forbid:(

i gota start running again this week hopefully can do a 3 miler, if i can do that il be happy and i can start running again.

i busted my angle running last 1.5 miles in 6:30 min mile pace, stupid me wasnt looking.

tell us how it goes i sure you will pass the PJFT as long as you done a few 3 milers before, treadmill is horrid to run on, dizzy as anything afterwoods, but it very soft so you can run quite fast with not as much energy.

i would try that pre-prmc course sounds good idea, though i dout they do a full bottom field test as that tended to make most of us puke a lot lol.

by the way DONT EAT CTCRM meat loff... it horrid

not to hard to do that time if stick at it.

like others have said do a lot more than is required then it will seem simple.

used to runabout ten miles a day and cycle that aswell.

havent done running for long while but im sure i could do that with a cigge on :D

breathing is key though when running and pace.

^^ good shoes and socks. ie proper running shoes and socks.

warm up and down properly to stop injurys though straining.

drink enough water.... eat well..

pretty basic things really.

last run you did what time did you get? 3 miler+ 1.5 mile.

if you want to improve fitness do hill reps, hard as anything but help lots.

ie:

find hill that takes about 1 min to go up full pace(sprinting up) then jog down, once at bottom sprint up again.

repeat 10 times:D by 5 you be done, but the extra 5 will help fitness.

it proven hill running is fastest way to improve fitness for running.

incorrect since now i have a date for my 2 day assesment and the army bloke has told me its 100 meters warmup and 1.5 miles in under 10 and a half min ive never been on a treadmill.
