100mph = instant ban?

If it's a camera/gatso - you're pretty much stuffed.

If you get pulled over by a traffic cop they'll use their professional discretion and depending on the conditions, situation and so on you may not get a ban, but you may get other things, or you could get let off completely. ;)

Normally 30mph over the speed limit does mean ban territory, though some people have been banned for a lot less in the past.

You coluld still get off in court with a decent brief, but unless you're well connected the chances are pretty slim.

Remember that your speedo would need to be showing ~110mph for a 'true' +100mph, just saying like.

To answer your question assuming were talking National SL a sniff over 100mph would probably go to Court to dish out a large fine + points/ban. Anything more than that would almost definately be a ban plus maybe Jail time. *As far as im aware*

I clocked a hooooge speed on the M6 Toll just before Xmas, in hindsight i'd be spending a lot of this year with Bubba if I had been spotted, it wasn't cool but involved nobody else.

Not always the case though, I know on my mates Fiesta ST, even at 145mph on the clock, it's at 142mph GPS, anything below 130mph and it was dead on. Depends on the car, tyres etc. Although your right, it could be out by up to 10%.

Even my 7 year old Eurobox is doing 77mph GPS with 80mph on the speedo.

I know many folks that have been to court for over 100mph , pleaded the "need my licence or I'll lose my job" line and got 6 points and a hefty fine rather than a ban

i might be wrong on this, but i seem to recall ...

that lopez was caught doing 100+ on the motorway. He was summonced to court, but arrived dressed smartly, had a good solicitor, and got a statement from his boss stating he would lose his job if he lost his license

that combined with some manors managed to get him 6 points and a £150 ish fine i think, but cant remember exactly. But i know he didnt get a ban

If your caught doing 100 + real speed by a camera, you will be summoned to court, and will most likely face a ban, unless you can proove it would loose you your job, or would mean your gran would starve etc...

but doing 101 indicated, doesnt mean you were doing 101 actual mph. Most speedos are inaccurate, and most tend to over-read.

My g/fs dad friend had a BMW M5 and was caught going down the M6 toll road, i think the policeman clocked him at 109mph, 124mph and then at 147mph.

The policeman pulled him over, the friend told him that he wasnt driving erratically and the road was completely empty but that yes he was aware he was speeding. The copper said he'd have to do him for the 109mph one.

I think he got fined and 3 points, kept his licence!

145mph out of a car that has a top speed of 129mph?

Think you will find it depends on if its 100% proof(yeah right) like a camera, or accused of doing said speed by 2 policemen following you in a car for example.

I had 6 points for 115+ from the latter :p

A ban would be normal but you might be lucky and get a short ban + fine with no points which can be better sometimes.

I think a custodial sentence is a very small possibility hence why it cant be dealt with automatically and you would be required in court

It's got Max Power stickers on it.

what about go faster stripes? don't they add 20MPH (and 10MPG) to your top speed?

also can I say from the standpoint of one whos been hit by cars speeding whilst on a pushbike (about 4 years ago, 50MPH in a 30 with SLOW and WARNING BIKES signs EVERYWHERE) you deserve EVERYTHING they throw at you.

I for one hate it when all you go out for a nice drive only to get stuck behind a bunch of people on pushbikes, they cause mayhem just because they decide that they want to race this weekend. They are a pain in the ass to get past because they ride in groups and the majority of them use no road signals when manouvering on the road. Yes, you get the occasional ones that stay over and cause no problems but its rare!! I hate cyclists!

As a child we were in traffic and a pushbike went straight into the back of us as we were slowing down for a roundabout. Ill never forget turning around when we heard the thump to see some guys face squashed against the back window.

it happened to be when I was crossing a road, car comes round the corner and goes straight though my back wheel, leaving me in a hedge. they didn't even stop.
this is an area in the countryside (about 100 yards from my house) that has an ABUNDANCE of cycle paths aswell, and a cycle hire shop

i understand what your saying mate, point is theres fools out there whether they be in cars or on bikes :D

Close.

104 mph on the M4 by a van in the middle of the day. I saw the van but only managed to slow to 104 by the time it got me.

I dressed smartly and took a letter (an EXTREMELY brief letter) on company letterheaded paper stating I would lose my job without the ability to get to work on time for early shifts.

I did not have a solicitor or any legal advice of any sort.

I was extremely courteous, apologised sincerely and spoke clearly in court.

I got a £200 fine and 6 points.

too true, we need MORE cycle lanes, and MORE police watching for sodding moterbike corriors on them
