100mph = instant ban?

what about go faster stripes? don't they add 20MPH (and 10MPG) to your top speed?

also can I say from the standpoint of one whos been hit by cars speeding whilst on a pushbike (about 4 years ago, 50MPH in a 30 with SLOW and WARNING BIKES signs EVERYWHERE) you deserve EVERYTHING they throw at you.
In a 30 yes, but 80mph on a NSL dual carriageway in good conditions isn't the end of the world.

totaly, I'm all for roads that have upto 100MPH limit, but that require your car to be rated to that speed, ie the brakes are to a higher standard than the ones on my corsa etc.

also maybe an aditional test to be alowed to drive at that speed? like the police drivers test? somthing to say that you CAN realy work a car at that kind of speed, just for insurance sake.

I was once caught doing a recorded 133mph on the A38 down south at midnight. It resulted in me having a 56day ban, no points and a small fine! Those 56 days were the longest in my life!

It was a MARKED patrol car as well! :(

wheres the A38?

Everywhere, it runs from Cornwall to the Midlands.

In some places, its a proper dual carriageway with grade seperated junctions, in others its actuallt 3 lanes either side and a Motorway in everything but name, yet in others, its a regular NSL road and in some places it's a main road in an urban area with a 40 limit.

For the record, I wasn't doing over 100mph, but 96.7 recorded over 264 yards according to their equipment.

The road was NSL, it was a clear, dry day on Saturday. I was overtaking some slow moving traffic and it was a long straight stretch which was clear of traffic at the point I was caught. I was not driving recklessly and my car is more than capable of this speed.

Oh well, lesson learnt! :D

Got caught by a sneaky scamera van doing 97mph in a 70mph, I got 3 points and a speed awareness course(+£91). The guy i sat next to on this 5 hour course was done for 104mph and he only got 3 points too.

thought so, its the one though plymouth aswell? or the one on the way to cornwall that you turn onto from plymouth?
either way I hear they are putting a load of speed vans on the dual carrage way by plymouth recently, saw a few there myself last time I was up there too, sneeky buggers hiding behind the bridges n stuff

Yes the A38 runs through Plymouth - at this point it is 'The Devon Expressway' and is a dual carriageway with grade seperated junctions.

Most Plymothians, being quite sheltered, call it 'The Motorway'.

Driven all over the place, and thats the only road to have caught me yet - mobile gatso, and on business :(. 87mph fortunately.

145mph out of a car that has a top speed of 129mph?

Book top speed of 129mph maybe... but I know for a fact it's been upto 142mph GPS, took a good few miles though and it was down a slight hill.

And no max power stickers or go faster stripes :p

not if your famous, they nearly always seen to get off with it
It can work the other way - Jay Kay from Jamiroqui was made an example of and given a 6 month ban for a ~100mph misdemeanour.

I know many folks that have been to court for over 100mph , pleaded the "need my licence or I'll lose my job" line and got 6 points and a hefty fine rather than a ban
Would be interesting to know how many of them already had 3 points on their licenses for a previous transgression. In such cases I wouldn't be at all surprised if the courts considered 6 points a harsher penalty than a short ban as it would leave you on 9 points and one further fixed penalty would see you losing your license for a prolonged period, which would focus the mind somewhat.

Interesting one this, I know someone who has a physical 12 points on their licence yet they have not been called to court for their impending ban! Either the clerk at the FPO didnt notice, or, they decided to let it pass, as three of the 12 points are due to drop off on the 28th Jan. Now, as the last three were made in October, they might have decided that by the time the courts set a date, the three points would have come off, making it a pointless exercise! Or, he might still be awaiting a letter in the post!! Who knows!

you have points on your license for 4 years

but its 12 points or more in a 3 year period that gets you a court apperance

so if you mean on the 28th of Jan the points are 4 years old, then those wont have been taken into account as they were over 3 years ago

Remember that your speedo would need to be showing ~110mph for a 'true' +100mph, just saying like.

To answer your question assuming were talking National SL a sniff over 100mph would probably go to Court to dish out a large fine + points/ban. Anything more than that would almost definately be a ban plus maybe Jail time. *As far as im aware*

I clocked a hooooge speed on the M6 Toll just before Xmas, in hindsight i'd be spending a lot of this year with Bubba if I had been spotted, it wasn't cool but involved nobody else.

Me too dude, achedive a new LCR speed record (for me) whilst hammering it from Liverpool to Reading in well under 3 hours. On hindsight, I value my freedom, and more importantly, arse, more than beating my parentshouse-to-work record!

You have points (printed) on your licence for 3 years, not 4, and they actually remain valid for insurance purposes for 5 years, but if you send your licence to the DVLA after year 3, (for address update or other) they remove the ones older than 3 years. Weel at least thats what happened in my case when I moved and got my licence details changed.

All of these 12 points have been accumulated within 3 years to, the first being 28th jan 2003 AKAIR.

What made me laugh was seeing the little shift-light come on, only I had ran out of gears! :)
