100mph = instant ban?

wasnt down ideford dip by any chance was it :p

That's the A380, you know the one that leads down to that slip road just before Penn Inn :P

Got my old B reg fiesta to show 100 on the clock down that dip years ago, sounded like it was going to explode.

Driving it everyday though has made it lose it's novelty though :(

You have points (printed) on your licence for 3 years, not 4
Nope, it's 4. From the DVLA website:

Endorsements must remain on a licence for 11 years from date of conviction if the offence is :

  • drinking/drugs and driving (shown on the licence as DR10, DR20, DR30 and DR80).
  • causing death by careless driving whilst under the influence of drink/drugs (shown on the licence as CD40,CD50 and CD60).
  • causing death by careless driving, then failing to provide a specimen for analysis (shown on the licence as CD70).
or 4 years from date of conviction if the offence is as listed below :

  • reckless/dangerous driving (shown on the licence as DD40,DD60 and DD80)
  • offences resulting in disqualification.
  • disqualified from holding a full licence until a driving test has been passed.
or 4 years from the date of offence in all other cases.

I clocked a hooooge speed on the M6 Toll just before Xmas, in hindsight i'd be spending a lot of this year with Bubba if I had been spotted, it wasn't cool but involved nobody else.

Yeah, I found myself doing that on new years morning...very early hours...nobody on the road...so I opened up.

Felt really ****ing stupid afterwards though...

The slip road where coppers can see in the dark you mean? :p

love that dam hill.

back in the day when I was a weeee lad my friends and I use to race from top of telegraph hill all the way down ideford dip and winner would be first to the top of the other side.
Man what a noise we made, revving the ol xflow to valve bouncing limits with a de=baffled janspeed zorst :D

strange how things change, back then it was the 'done' thing but wouldnt think of it now!

my mate got done doing 100mph and was lucky to get a fine only cus he needed his car for work without it he couldnt work and i am not sure if they are aloud 2 do that take your earnings away from you.

defo if they give you a fine!

Am I the only person who thinks its grossly unfair that people who 'need their car for work' can get off with a lighter penalty than other people who have comitted exactly the same 'crime'?

I think it depends on the exact definition of "needing the car for work" tbh. If you're the only one who will be disadvantaged through losing your licence then I don't think any preferential treatment should be levied. If however, others will be disadvantaged, such as spouses or children, then it's a bit more difficult.

On the one hand you could argue that such a person shouldn't get away with a lighter penalty than someone who's chosen not to marry or have children, but then why should their dependents suffer unduly for their actions?

Thats why its so difficult - why should a family be disadvantaged through a speeding offence?

But, why should Bob who drives for pleasure be treated more harshly than Fred simply becuase Fred is married and a sales rep? They both did the same crime..

Not always the case though, I know on my mates Fiesta ST, even at 145mph on the clock, it's at 142mph GPS, anything below 130mph and it was dead on. Depends on the car, tyres etc. Although your right, it could be out by up to 10%.
1.unless it's modded then it won't look at 142MPH never mind DO it.
2.EVERY car speedo MUST read fast by law.
3.GPS isn't 100% accurate either.

Got caught by a sneaky scamera van doing 97mph in a 70mph, I got 3 points and a speed awareness course(+£91).

No, he got caught by a sneaky camera van.
i'm guessing the signs displaying the limit for that road were clearly visible??
ignore the first line of enforcement and you don't exactly have the right to bleat like a girl when the second line isn't as conspicuous.

Irrelevent.

Thats true but it doesn't stop camera vans being sneaky :)

I got caught by a sneaky camera van. I didn't bleat about it, I didn't whinge about it, I didn't faff around with stupid S172 dodges - I paid the fine. Didn't stop the van being sneaky ;)

It is irrelevant, I cannot be bothered to get into a pointless debate about getting nicked for doing 65mph on long straight roads in the middle of nowhere just becuase a peice of paper conceived in 1960 says you must.

it has nothing to do with the right and wrong of the limit in place.
many limits could be raised and not have their relevant safety decreased at all.
it's the constant "i'm the victim" attitude that gets on my nerves.
"it wasn't my fault"...."it wasn't fair they were hiding"....err YOU chose to drive at XXX MPH so shut up and take your penalty.

the limits are there and it's your choice to break them or not,but at least be enough of an adult to put your hands up and say fair enough rather than look for excuses.

Book top speed of 129mph maybe... but I know for a fact it's been upto 142mph GPS, took a good few miles though and it was down a slight hill.

What he said /\
You must have been going down a very long hill with the wind behind you to get that speed out of a 150bhp engine bolted inside a mk6 Fiesta shell.

Did you fold the wing-mirrors in to ? ;)

My vec Gsi speedo goes off the clock lol, takes a few miles though! only done it on sunday morning on that track day lol.

speedo goes to 160mph, i got 152 off gps, and the speedo was well past 160!

i'd get 6 months in prison if i was caught on the road i know that for sure!

Even my 7 year old Eurobox is doing 77mph GPS with 80mph on the speedo.

touch of lag involved in gps though.

and 10% on your speedo is the maximum, and can be in both directions.
i.e. 100 on the speedo could be 90 or 110.

tyres etc can all effect it.

just stick to the speed limit. simple :)
tyr to stay under 100 and you wont get a ban.

but thats only since getting the mondeo. in my mk2 golf days.......

unless i'm mistaken your speedo must read FAST upto a maximum of 10%.
it is not allowed to under-read.

Everywhere, it runs from Cornwall to the Midlands.

In some places, its a proper dual carriageway with grade seperated junctions, in others its actuallt 3 lanes either side and a Motorway in everything but name, yet in others, its a regular NSL road and in some places it's a main road in an urban area with a 40 limit.

in bits of bristol it's 30mph.
