Its all a bit depressing aint it.

The whole day out to court and sitting about for hours is getting on my nerves already.

It has certainly been a deterrent for me, not the fine, just the whole stupid package, court, filling in forms, ringing the insurance, i hate all that rubbish.

Im never out at 3am normally, its been 20 years since i last had points, i never bother to speed because its too congested usually when i drive.

So to sum up, if i am out at 3am on an empty motorway again i will be putting the cruise on at 80mph.

Just think all this because my son couldnt get the right ferry bahhh, its his fault.

The trouble is 90% of drivers are not interested in or dont think they need to do any driver training.

So i cant see an alternative to speed limits to be honest.

I fundamentally disagree with you. If you believe laws and orders with no justification are necessary, then we can end the debate right here - I understand your position and your preference for a limited existence. It's a preference I do not share. The world is not ideal, but nobody else is going to improve it for us.

Of course they are needed, because you wont get people to improve en masse voluntarily.

I used to like having a fight at football every saturday with like minded nutters 25 years ago.

But i can see why you aint supposed to do it. You cant have self imposed parameters because people being people just wont impose them.

The UK is statistically one of the safest countries in Europe to drive in . The number of deaths are already at an extreme low.

Yes, because we have speed limits and laws in place that promote that.

Start de restricting our terribly maintained roads and see what happens.

Well that was a liberty this monrning.

2k fine, 42 day ban, 50 quid costs and 15 quid victim surcharge. Plus 400 quid my solicitor.

Victim my arse, the only victim here is me.

3am NOTHING except me and a copper on the motorway in a 1 year old Porsche, what the **** was i going to crash into.

No driving offences for 20 years to boot, that really has ****ed me off, 3 green grocer ****ers. Magistrates my arse.

I dont even care about the fine it was the ****ing attitude on the 3 of them.

Some shoplifting ***** before me waltzes out 80 quid, i hate this country at times.

And the ban the maximum is only 56 days i might as well have gone for 170mph and had my moneys worth.

£2k and a 42 day ban for 104MPH on a straight an empty motorway :/

Far too harsh - I guess you came across a bunch of Magistrates that probably drives Honda Jazz'.

Are these fines means tested?

Yea they asked my solicitor what my circumstances were.

So does the ban take effect immediately?

Yea i got a cab there and made my solicitor bring me home.

Honest im frothing about this, the way they spoke to me, told my solicitor to be quiet when he objected to their tone the full bit.

I hope you asked if the ban can start next week as I have an OcUK meet to attend.

I'l tell me son to drive me up tomorrow if i aint got the hump still, he will have to do the passenger rides, your probably got more chance of the beans with him anyway :)

I did it with a flourish on a card dont worry, i grit the teeth till outside :)

Anyway cheers for the support, it does work venting i can tell you.

No good me moaning at home, they just give me that "he's off on one again" look and me ****ing partner laughed when i told him.

Are you less likely to do that speed again now?

I seldom break the speed limit because im never normally out at 3am or on roads that allow it.

If you are asking if this is a deterrent then of course, its a reminder not to do it, but believe it or not this was a once off anyway.

To Joshy, yes just speeding, no dangerous/reckless driving.

Also 6 weeks ban, thats just a bit too long, it is an inconvenience being that long.

So erm, 2k fine, divide by minimum wage for their age, and voila, they have to do that many hours of (unpaid) work picking up rubbish from the street or risk jailtime instead.

It costs money to make them do work, as in admin, for nothing back.

Its not like it saves paying a rubbish picker, its a job that would need to be invented to create the punishment.

In other words a waste of time. Also we bang too many people up for stupid things in this country, i dont know what the answer is but it aint banging them up.

So are you going to have to retake your driving test?

No, thank god, but if i had got the full 56 days ban my solicitor was waffling about re applying for a license or something.

By that time i was ranting in his car and not listening properly though so i didnt really understand what he was on about.

If i appealed it, it would cost me probably 1500quid for the solicitor and half a day with a barrister.

By the time it comes up the ban will be over, its just all geared so you dont bother.

An appropriate, if not swift enough, punishment. Great to see real means-tested justice done for illogical and frankly terrifying speeding.

Shame on you.

Im humbled by your words!

I shall now retire to the garden for some self whipping.
