10K Drive worth it?

i had 4 raptor x (150gb) in raid 0, the seek tiem was around 5.5ms
i sold them and bought 4x 500gb 7200.11's with 32mb cache put them in raid 0 with a boot slice in and im now getting 6.5ms seek and a lot faster speeds elsewhere, imo a raptor is a bad buy

Doesnt sound right, your SEEK goes up as you Raid, so both your Raptor SEEK in Raid0 and the 7200RPM's in Raid0 look low infact the 7200RPM looks low for single drive.

Unless Im missing something.

Those seek times do seem a little low to me too.

I think you have to ask what you are going to use the drives for?

For an OS or an OS and a few games/programs then raptors IMO are worth it.

If you need lots of space for backups/images, work/work in progress etc then the newer 32mb cache drives would be the way to go.

However I would feel very vulnerable having the OS and data on nearly 2tb of RAID 0. Unless this was backed up to another large storeage drive, thus making your storage strategy very expensive.

Yeah Raptor for OS and seperate drives for everything else.
