Some of the 'I've never stood on a terrace' brigade should go and watch a match at a lower level.

I haven't sat down at a football match this season.

Fully agree, at most grounds i've been to still with terracing, all the atmosphere (Singing, chanting and general noise) comes from the standing fans. The seated fans tend to be heavily interspersed with families and the older fan, both of these aspects disperse any genuine attempts to get chanting going with any real passion. The terraces seem mainly to be groups of men under the age of 50, and within this area the chanting/singing is always started and thrives.

This is of course my own opinion based on my own experiences and is definitely the way that London Road is, which is a mixed seated/terraced ground. Our main seated area is even called the family stand.

Personally I always opt for standing to seating.

I've only been to three Football matches in the last 5+ years but I did go to Tamworth last year which only has about 15 seats so standing was the only option. It is definitely different, though it depends on how steep the stand is. If you're standing basically on the same level as the pitch, the view is pretty poor, but you are closer obviously.

I also have the displeasure of visiting various old Rugby grounds where standing is the norm for away fans. It does improve the atmosphere and your overall experience but I do prefer my season ticket seat at the DW Stadium over any standing possibilities. Probably because I'm lazy but I do prefer to see the game rather than dance around and make noise.
