120mm Fan

Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000s for the win. All 3 of my Yate Loons make clicking noises at 5vs (that's only the 12cm ones the 14cm ones are brilliant!). Silent Eagle which arrived only this morning makes noise but is easily masked by the clicking noises. I expect to have a completely inaudable (to me) PC once the Eagles are in under around 8v.

Problem is now I can hear my sisters subwoofer making a slight humm when my PC is on but her's is off - have to unplug it for silence. Now - that central heating is a bit noisy - anyone know any silent-orientated home improvement forums?

An increase of 3 dB corresponds to an approximate doubling of power
i think it means that 5 extra dB makes it quite a bit louder (please correct me if im wrong) and if someone has both fans can they say how much louder the 120mm is compared to the 60mm in realistic terms (i.e. not just numbers off a website)

I dont get why everyone raves about yate-loon fans (other than they must be good) as it's always said they are the best price:performance ratio. In a forum where someone will spend double on a radiator to get a 2c drop in temps this seems at odds, £6 for a better fan .... so what ???

Anyone know (or know where I can go) what the best performance fans are ..... 38mm depth fans seem to win ... don't know though. Silence is less important than airflow to me so I would think that rules out noctuas etc.

I have the xilence red wings at the moment which seem ok so they would need to beat that.

If you really don't care about noise get deltas - however you do NEED to not care at all about noise.

If you do care get 38mm deep YS-Tech or something similar. Push loads of air and only sound like a light aircraft taking off. I have 3 of 'em I bought at auction and they're reallly good but not quiet.

IMO the best fans for radiators are the 38mm Panaflo M1 fans, VERY scaleable, but will never be silent.

Pants - YL fans are OEM, so cheap (£2-£3), in retail form, they're basically the Nexus fan @ £13+ a pop. Mine don't click @ 5v, and are completely inaudible at 12". :D

Basically, they're one of the best, at 1/5th of the price.

Some good news on the fan front:

Gibbo has just confirmed that OCUK will be stocking Sharkoon fans, that means the excellent Sharkoon 2000 "Golfball" fans will be arriving soon.

This means a great looking, if not odd looking, fan that does 76.4CFM [EDIT - real world more like 55-60 CFM]@36.1db :p .

There was a test done on extreme systems recently which concluded this to be the best fan available... searches for link...

26 fans tested

wooohoo, my whole case is fitted with Sharkoon SE's, wonderful fans that push lots of air and look amazing if you have a case which is black on the inside like mine :D
