13 GPUs

Love the posts no dx11 or will it play crysiss on max:rolleyes:.
Don't think that machine will ever run a game, wonder number crunching its doing that requires that much power.
Just imagine if a nvidia chip was used to find a cure to cancer, i can see Rolf smoking 60 fags a day just to say Nvidia saved my life, ot but hey:D

I think Final8y said it best:
Give the average user here access to the worlds fastest super computer & the first thing they will do is install Crysis.

But still, all that comes to mind is...

surely using only a single i7 is a serious bottneck for all that gpu power? i wonder how much of those cards are actually utilised

No, because work is loaded onto the cards for processing (think batch processing). You don't need the CPU for low bandwidth operations. I bet even the PCI-e slots are running at something like 2x.(4x max?)

edit : Notice the lack of sli bridge ? Because you don't need that either

I do GPU processing myself. CPU is idle whilst the cards merrily crunch away

why didnt they just go with 7 295's

...was about to buy till I read that part, ah well i'm sticking with the pentium 4 3GHz with onboard for now

i bet the windows / nvidia drivers are going to have a fit lol

They did ? 7x295 = 14gpus ... What happened to the last one ? BIOS probably didn't let them use it.

All they would need from nvidia is CUDA.

Come on boys stop thinking of gaming with this because you can't :p

All they need to do now is combine the 32 SSD drives here with the 13 GPUs :D

/ocuk needs a drool smilie :)

Harddisk: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB

At first this choice may seem somewhat strange. The Spinpoint harddrive is not very fast compared to more expensive models such as the WD Raptors or Solid State Disks. However, we observed that in our case, disk access is not a performance bottleneck at all. In particular, having a single harddisk improves the airflow through the case and keeps the system very tidy.

I don't know about the drivers, but in the video the guy said that they had to work together with Asus to get a 64bit BIOS created for the board because the original one wasn't capable of recognizing all of those graphics cards or something along those lines.

And he also said something about how they are still working on getting the system stable, and that it involves lots of hacking to get it to work as they intended.
