£1400 build and storage questions

I have an itch... a painful itch... to upgrade.

Moving swiftly on, I'm planning on donating my 3 year old rig to my dad for money soon so I'm thinking about a new replacement. I've put a build idea below though to be honest the only component I'm actually set on is the case: Fractal R4 because I like it (though couldn't find on the website?). Beyond that... I have no idea. Any alternative components are welcomed. I quite fancy building a colour coded PC this time round, you know right before I put it under my desk and don't look at it again for ages.

The £1400 is for just the tower itself plus OS. It will be used for gaming but I'm also looking to use it for storage of a lot of media. My question is... what would my options be when it comes to setting up the harddrives? Could I just hook up the two harddrives I'm looking to buy, and add more in the future if and when I want to?

Hope this post makes sense and thank you in advance for any help.

i7 with 16GB of RAM. Largely depends what the rig is for. Would make more sense to get a single 3TB HDD, would be kinder to your wallet ;)

i7K bundled with the better H100i and used the 3TB drive :D

Yeah that's a sexy lil mATX build bud. 3TB drive would free up cash to upgrade the refurb'd H100 fans and maybe get a modular PSU instead too

I really look forward to seeing where this goes. Be nice to hear what he uses the rig for so the parts can be balanced for performance as well as looks :D

You and your fans lol Why not use the EVO SSD Ether? It is much better and hardly much more to order. 3TB drive makes more sense on the pocket unless he wanted one of the 2TB HDDs as a backup drive.

That RAM looks so sweeeeet just a shame it's "slow" :(

Cheers guys. I like the 350D, think it is better than the R4.
A 3TB drive would make more sense, if it is enough storage for the OP. It would be nice to know if he intends to add another card at a later date, then spec him a Psu to suit.

Stop criticising.

The fans will look lovely in that build.

Haha I know you do bud. They are nice and quiet and do look sweeet. They have become your signature ;) I can spot your specs even if it didn't have your name by it ;)

Cheers mate that rule only applies when speccing over £1000 tho ;) trying to match looks and performance to meet a budget is hard work mate considering the amount I blow it all to match.

I really enjoy seeing the way we all balance things out differently. Usually the best parts are combined after talking through the pros and cons and the OPs walk away with something EPIC!

With the refurb'd H100 cheep (like the budgie) upgrading the fans to SP120 QEs makes lots of sense.

I was just thinking the Gigabyte Sniper (mATX) would have looked cool as that logo on the Titan cooler glows green on the side. So many options I don't envy the OP lol

Agreed..... and I would personal turn that LED light off but considering the G1 Sniper M5 ...... stop giving me crazy idea's :p

EDIT: with some Bitfen Specter Pro (green LED) fans and razer mouse and keyboard ..... OP kiss budget good bye :( would look EPIC tho what I have in mind now.

I'm pretty certain the Sniper has a green LED trail on the mobo too around the audio chip (think the MSI gaming has a red LED on the audio chip??). The green LED fans may "wash out" that effect perhaps? Although the H100i does have a LED in the logo that can have it's colour adjusted to suit......this is all warping my fragile lil mind ;)

Honestly I'd stick to ATX though. I think we are onto a winner with the Corsair 540 case. Three AF140 fans as standard, excellent watercooling options and because the PSU has it's own compartment at the back with LOADS of space (120mm from mobotray to side panel), you have plenty of space to hide cables. This makes modular PSU less of a "necessity"

If the OPs brain doesn't explode from information overload and nerd porn, I seriously can't wait to see what he specs next ;)

Wow guys thank you for all the builds! I posted this last night and went to bed thinking it might get overlooked - boy was I wrong. Some of these look awesome, I'm currently in the process of looking at each of them and looking at component reviews to determine which I like best.

The thing with the storage was that I thought about maybe using two 2tb drives to back up the same stuff as I don't want to lose it - hate it when that happens. But I might not bother and just go for a single drive for now.

The rig will mainly be used for gaming (Rome 2 Total War is on my radar). Only at 1080p for the time being until I replace the monitor. I do a little video editing and stuff but that's only a fraction of the time spent.

Edit: My aim is to make the PC as silent as possible too.
