£1400 build and storage questions

Thank you guys :D

I'm keen on the idea of a colour coded build but don't mind if its red, blue or green :p I'm not so daft as to sacrifice performance but if I can build a high quality rig which also happens to look cool, then I'm happy!

Forgot to address an earlier point someone made - I might double up on graphic cards at a later date so will maybe need some power supply head room? Would a fully modular 750W PS be a waste of budget?

Modern components are getting better and better at lowering power usage. Your be able to run 2 cards these days and a decent overclock on them with the CPU with a 750watter easily, modular just makes cable management much much easier.

I used the cheaper version of the mobo you picked but it still runs the PCI-E lanes in sync for Xfire/SLi. That's something you have to keep an eye on. I used that XFX 850W simply because it's cheaper than the 750W version (don't ask me why that's so)

Modular is good. Fully modular would allow you to easily remove the unit to clean out any dust as every cable can be unclipped. Semi-modular units will have the 24pin and 4/8pin hardwired, some units have more of the commonly used cables hardwired too.

I do try to use atleast a semi-modular PSU in specs but the Corsair 540 case is a rare exception to the rule as I mentioned before. The 330R my buddy suggested is a good shout for a quiet case as it has sound proofing and still allows the H100 CLC but without a side window over styling the internals maybe a little less important to you.

Is superfast RAM worth it compared with say 1866MHz? (I'm guessing the answer to that is "it depends on what you need it for" :D)

Could go orange with that build ;)

Memory bandwidth does matter.

I've seen someone post on another site a BF3 test with RAM at two different speeds, there was a nearly 10fps increase with faster RAM (still with decent timings)
The reason for that RAM was its performance and using Hynix IC's you should be able to improve the timings further very easily with the OC board.

There is orange RAM available,

But if you really minted the 2400C9 or 2600C10 are epic.

Thanks for that stulid.

Hoping to order parts in a couple of weeks when my finances are looking healthier, also happen to have a spare few days at the end of the month to build it and do some DIY :) just need to decide on what parts to go for!

Oh and a big thank you to everyone who offered advice!

No problem, check back in a few weeks then when you are ready to order, there will be price drops and new special offers so the spec may change.
