Hi! So I am finally looking to make the switch from 1080p to 1440p. As I now have quite a powerful rig (GTX 1080, Ryzen 1700) I think it's time to make the most of it with an upgraded monitor.

So yeah, this is going to be solely for gaming, what I'm looking for is 1440p, 120-144hz and G-Sync.

I don't really want to pay any higher than £550 as that's the top of my budget. There are so many different monitors out there with mixed reviews so it's been hard deciding on my own.

Can anyone help me out and point me in the right direction to a great one?

Cheers.

Dell S2716DG is a good choice, well built with a nice non super gamey design. May need calibrating though as contrast is not as high as some others.

Dell S2417DG is 24 inch version but may overclock to 165 Hz. High ppi and may have slightly better contrast.

Asus PG278QR same class as the other two. Has slightly richer colours, gamma control and possible overclocking to 165 Hz. Build quality probably not as good as Dell and anti glare coating very aggressive.

Acer XB271HU is an IPS with better colours than the TN panels mentioned above which is probably the best choice if your not super picky about pixel response times.

These can be found at around £550 if you shop around.

I've had mine for a few years and it's perfect. I really cannot fault it.

That's great lads. Thanks Karen very much for the replies. Especially you Davanius.

I have been looking at the S2716DG closely so it's funny you should all recommend it. Might go for it as it seems to have very good reviews in general as well.

I have a question regarding G-Sync... Does it just fix screen tearing or does it also help smoothen out FPS drops and little stutters? Be good to know is exactly what it does.

I just went from a 144hz 1440p monitor to 4k 60fps max (32 inch). I'm using the same settings in GTAV as I had, except turning off anti-aliasing because it is no longer needed, and I get solid 60fps and I can't notice any difference in smoothness or flow (I never got near 144Hz in gameplay). In fact it seems snappier and better.
Both monitors have G-Sync. 1080ti.

It syncs your monitor refresh rates to the GPU to smoothen everything out and stop screen tear completely. It’s sort of a hardware alternative to V Sync. It’s nice tech to have if you are going to get an Nvidia card. When I had an GTX 970, I’m sure it would have looked worse on a 1440p on a monitor without G Sync as it struggled to hit 60fps let alone 144fps :p

I've got both Acer Predator XB271HU 1440p 165Hz and Acer Predator XB271HK 2160p 60Hz in my wishlist.

Was eyeing up the Asus equivalents for a long time, but the horror stories kinda put me off them, along with the steep price.

The zero frame will look great, as I will be mounting them on my monitor arm.

Hopefully my post helps, along with the others above.

I've had both of those monitors (well, similar ones) and I'd say that currently 1440p with a high-refresh (144hz+) + Gsync is the current sweet-spot. So so epic

Yeah I cannot wait!

I have a 27" 1080p TN monitor from 5 years ago, I'm at a point where I can treat myself now.

I am currently after a monitor with same specs also and I am liking the suggested Dell S2716DG a lot!

Having used today for the first time 27" Widescreen with 1080p I must say I like the size of the monitor but hating the resolution.
It definitely needs a 1440p for that sweet spot! :D

The prices are holding back from purchase though
