As above looking at best options for gaming at 1440p, some 4K if possible, up to 120fps as will be used with a LG CX OLED. So far options seem to be 3080, 6800/6900 XT from the previous gen or 7800 XT and 4070 from the current crop.

Do like the idea of RT but I know it’s not going to be strong at this price point, then there’s DLSS and FSR to consider, it’s a minefield.

I use a 3060Ti for 1440p, the only issues i've ever had running in 1440p is due to it's lack of VRam, something to consider.

Yeah, 6800xt has 16gb on board, which helps it A LOT. It's also reasonably good at 4k as long as you set your expectations accordingly.

Surely at 1440p and aiming 120fps the minimum you should be aiming for is a 7900 gre or xt, look at game averages fps on techpowerup

You'd be surprised, with DLSS i've sailed by at 1440p with 144hz in a lot of games. The only limiting factor i've found so far is VRam

Cheers for the suggestions all, think from the looks of what people are putting up and from what I’ve read else where I’ll hang on a bit and push for the 7900 GRE. Tbh 4K was more because it’s the native res of the tv, and was unsure if 1440p would look decent on the CX.

AMD looks to be the card of choice, not many suggesting Nvidia cards. Thought because of DLSS etc they would be top choice, or is FSR and frame gen decent now at 1440p?

I've tested and played with 1440p on my LG OLED and I was pretty impressed with just how good it looked. Obviously native 4K looks better and sharper but at considerably more strain on the GPU.

The nvidia cards under £450 are pretty bad, the 4060 Ti 16GB just doesn't make sense for the performance it offers and the 4060 Ti 8GB is barely any better than the 3060 Ti (it can even be slower).

You can get a 4070 for around £500 now which is the first good option, but the upgraded 4070 Super is usually much more and we're already recommending you go over budget.

The 7900 GRE also has a relatively big bus and plenty of VRAM, which pairs nicely with the decent raster performance @ 4K.

I went for this RX 7800 XT.

Its a great card, does anything 1440P and its 4K capable, £20 over your £450 budget but at Tetras said the 4060 Ti 16 GB is a much slower card, the performance you get with DLSS quality mode is what you get native with the 7800 XT, if not more, if you're gaming at 1440P the 8GB version is useless.

If i had to do it now i would stretch my budget to the 7900 GRE.

The alternative if you want Nvidia is the RTX 4070.

The RX 7800 XT is still faster, personally IMO the 4070 is also too expensive for what it is. Again might as well get the 7900 GRE instead.
