147GB Seagate Sata II 15,000rpm !!!!!!!!!! £530!!

There comes a point where increased cache not only doesn't help - it actually gets in the way.
If you look at the cycle of cache to performance increase you can see that the difference it has actually made each time has got a lot smaller.
2-4mb, 4-8mb, 8-16mb - each time the cache doubled but performance really hit the peak at around the 8mb mark.
It was other included technologies that gave the performance boosts with the later drives.
Following that, 32mb shouldn't really help at all so anything going beyond would be a waste of time (and money).

How speculative is this?

32?

But we're only at 16MB so far? Aren't we?

I said they'd be bypassing that, so think bigger!

Definately 100% confirmed as 300GB.

No other tech site has any mention of this, so I'm guessing this is a bit of speculation...?

It was from the Senior Product Manager of Enterprise for WD who was in at OcUK a week or so ago.

There is still no firm release date on this drive so although a few sneaky bits of info are starting to appear, there is no ETA on it as yet but will not be until next year.
