15 or 17 inch

The current obsession with widescreen doesn't help. I don't see the need - give me a 1400x1050/1600x1200 14" 4:3 screen.

IBM covered the size options perfectly with the X31 and T40 series laptops.

One must assume that Apple have a reason for keeping the screen resolution down (other that cost cutting, of course  :D )

However, I agree with them not festooning their laptops with all sorts of ports like the land of PC laptops do. I lose count of how many PC laptops are ruined, at least atheistically, by ports seemingly in random locations. Never had a problem with shortage of USB on my MacBook.

Comparing the crap that is Acer against Apple, did you not check what forum you posted that in? ;) :p

All I'm saying is that for a company that prides themselves in connectivity, they ironically have less choice than normal laptops, though the 6pin Firewore port is useful.

And before you slate Acer mate, my Acer is identical to a 2 year old MBP, and does look quite nice in its own right. Generalised comments are never accurate, whilst most laptops look pretty dire, some of them look quite nice, even in comparison to MacBooks. I'm not bias, in fact I'm switching over to Mac in a few weeks myself, really would like an MBP.

As for USB devices, I use a Printer, Phone connection, Mouse, USB MIDI keyboard, Sound card and an external hard drive. I bet no one has exceeded their USB bandwidth as much as I have :P

Well, i appreciate all the advice and viewpoints. I've decided on 15", and with the money saved will up the spec that little bit more.

PS Acer's are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to laptops. Never buy one people!

I could write paragraphs slating Acer on a personal, business, and aesthetically level but I will save you my diatribe, suffice to say that on both a professional and personal level my opinion of them is low. :p

Well there isn't anything wrong with my one mate (though it does get very hot, but that's actually my fault!), you must have just had some bad luck ;)

I don't have one of those cheapo ones, I agree they look pretty rubbish, but my one is in my opinion the nicest looking one they put out, and seeing as it's identical in spec to a 2006 MBP, I can't fault it on its hardware either.

In keeping with the theme of the thread, I'm still undecided which one to go for myself.
