i notice your offended by the physical description of the attacker but not by the description of his clothes?
The problem is it's a minor crime (at least, the injuries were minor) and is not the kind of thing that normally makes it's way into a national newspaper. ..
Even says it's minor injuries in the article. (re read my post...)
It's not a news story that would normally end in a National newspaper, unless of course you could put the terrorism slant on it...

story a few days ago about an elderly poppy seller being told to leave Morrison supermarket and stand outside in the cold for example
a charity worker being told to stand outside isn't normally news unless the charity really tries to kick up a stink but poppy seller close to remembrance day - that makes it news
The injuries were minor. The crime wasn't. If I tried to murder you and you managed to escape or I somehow fluffed it and left you with minor or no injuries does that make it ok? No. It's still attempted murder.
This guy still attempted to badly injure, scar or possibly kill that kid. Every one of which is a serious crime!

Guess rememberence day is something that many British folk feel passionately about. I'd think after what the people of our country (and others of course) went through, we have a right to be sensitive.
It also doesn't mean it is national news either.

But as for the 'minor' crime, would shooting at someone and missing be classed as minor just because they've escaped without injury?
no the fact its something editors believe their audience would buy a paper to read makes it national news.
severity of something does not dictate whether its newsworthy otherwise celebrity gossip wouldn't be such a massive market.
More because of the Uniform, Poppy connection and ethnicity of the attacker rather than the seriousness of the crime I suspect.
Plenty of people are subjected to serious assaults everyday, many with far more serious outcomes than this example, yet they generally don't make national news outlets, let alone multiple ones.
That's not to say that this is any less serious or that there is any excuse for the offence, simply that in the scheme of crime reporting I expect there were many other far more serious assaults that were not reported nationally within the same timeframe for publication.
no the description of the attacker isn't speculation nor is the fact the victim was a cadet speculation.
in fact nothing in that article was speculation.
Which just illustrates what people's criticism were.
