£150 to spend.... but what on?

nothing wrong with that mobo its still a good solid board. You have a good cpu no doubt about that. Do you have a pic of the zalman coz if its any one of the cnps95.... range it should be fine could maybe just need cleaning and reseating with some good thermal paste. Anyway I would go for these for a decent gaming boost and maybe a fresh install of your op system to speed up boot times

IF you could stretch your budget a bit further go for a 260gtx for an even bigger improvment in your games

p43 should allow for a much easier overclock on your CPU provided your RAM doesnt limit you too much.

ATi kinda rule in the GPU market you should be looking at, sub £100 so theres little choice in that. Nvidia has the very high end (GTX285 & GTX295) under their control

I see, im sure the Asus p5n32e-sli can do more then a 100Mhz overclock though lol.

so , tell u wot , hows about the 4gb ocz blade set (£40 ish?) + the best card for £110.. ish..

so whats the best card for 110?

or 150 if the rams not a major issue..

just saw the idea of kingston .. i always thought they were the budget choice?

also .. its 2587mhz .. :( (hangs head in shame) ... i miss the days when people where impressed with my Tbird 1.4 @ 1.6 :( i miss my juno case

oh almost forgot , q6600 are my temps ok? or a bit to hot.. ? always been paranoid bout temps..

Well I have to be honest with your 150 budget to upgrade your gpu and ram you arent going to be looking at top end ram :) and that hyper 4gb set is really quite decent and has tighter timings than the blade set

Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel (KHX6400D2LLk2/4G) 43.99

leaving £106.01

hmm...

OcUK Value GTS 250 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) @ £104.64
or
Asus ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) @ £121.89
which would be over budget :/ ..

isnt the gts 250 90nm? and so fat and hot?

also , this free delivery for members doing 100 posts ... is that for any order? ( not that im thinking of doin oodles o posts to get free delivery :D)

timings mean sod all with ram, never managed to see any real world difference, I'd say new ram for speed to allow you to clock more, a better cooler and a GPU will be the route to noticeably better performance.

I'd be a bit nervous about the psu too... true a psu won't give you better performance but a dodgy psu can hold back clocks or potentially even damage equipment.

Personally I see a good psu as the cornerstone of a decent system.

"timings mean sod all with ram" hm gotta disagree !
I have seen better benchmark scores from my own system using lower clock with tighter timings than higher clock with slack timings

hmm righty ...

so the hyper ram looks like a cert, nice n fast

and the 250 looks nice.. but what kinda improvement am i gonna get from an 8800gts?

is it worth me just upgrading the ram n cooler and saving up for a 260?

Edgey why? i can understand saving for the GTX 260 but why the other suggestions? going by what the OP has said he may already have that cooler.

2gb of ram? u want me to go down in ram?

also im on a zalman hs ..it did about 1/2 degrees difference over the stock cooler.. i was most put out.

Why not slap ona mem divider, increase RAM voltage and loosen the timings a bit and see how far you can push it before you spend money on ram you might not even need :) I be thats whats holding your overclock back.

ive already seperated the ram from the other stuff ... but its rather poo ram..

and tbh.. im still not sure of this intel business.. increasing voltage of the ram might cause global warming and economic collapse

no wait , i mean broken ram

from what i hear a q6600 should reach 3ghz quite happily i believe some members here have them running at nearly 4ghz, if you're really that worried about temps, try re-seating it as it may drop the temps a bit if that fails and you want a new cooler you got a few choices in the form of the TRUE/sunbeam/noctua & titan
