hi ocuk,

got £150 to spend on a card, looking to order today or tomorrow morning.

its basically for guild wars 2 and borderlands 2.

been looking at the 7850 2gb ocuk has "this week only" for £150, is this the one to go for?.

thanks Phil

what do you mean 'as per this thread'? the op doesnt mention oc'ing

I think it is kinda assumed that if you are an enthusiast (which let's face it, we are on a forum called OverclockersUK) so you would be willing to spend 5 seconds moving a few sliders. No reason not to, especially when there is so much performance to be gained with the 7800/7900 series. Overclocking performance and lower power consumption make the 7850 the best option for £150.

well tbh I consider myself an enthusiast for a quiet and cool machine. I would be more likely to underclock a card and put on a passive heatsink than overclock. I just wanted the op to be aware of all the options

Sure thing, but the 7850 on offer would run quite a bit cooler than that 560Ti 448 reference card you posted- and would be quite a lot quieter, even when overclocked. Not to mention that the 1.25Gb Vram on the 448 could limit it in the future compared to the 2Gb on the 7850. Nvidia don't really have anything to compete with the 7850 price wise, unless the 660 drops in price.

My friend, who I built a rig for has a MSI 7850 TF3 clocked to 1200mhz and it's quieter than his PSU, fans only ramp to 35% in Arma II, BF3 etc.

underclockers.co.uk FTL :p

lol underclockers, ok I wasnt saying oc'ing means it will automatically be hot just that you be suprised how many people dont oc their cards

And a 7850 at 1200MHz would definitely be a lot faster than any 560Ti 448 out there :)
Nvidia have really missed out on key price points with their 600 series lineup.

Oh I realise that there are many who don't overclock their cards, it's just that not doing so should really be a crime :)
So much to gain for just a few seconds work, I really don't know why more people don't. I think people are just overly cautious, but remember- software overclocking doesn't void your warranty, they wouldn't even know it was ever overclocked at all.

well overall I was just saying that at stock, I think the ti 448 might edge it in general.
I personally wouldnt go for the 448 but just wanted to add that at his budget its something else he coudl consider.

Out of interest do the newer AMD cards have any issues overclocking when using dual monitors (like the 5850 did)? I am assuming that is all fixed now but would like to make sure before i make a similar purchase to the OP.
